BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JULY 24, 2016

We welcome you to FEA in the all-powerful name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. May you receive your blessing from God today.

A recent study has revealed that women in America who attend church services once or more each week are five times less likely to commit suicide in contrast to those who never attend any religious service. The study which involved 89,708 women from age 30-55 years was published this past week in JAMA Psychiatry (a medical journal). Among the 89,708 women, 17,028 attended a worship service more than once a week, while 36,488 attended only once a week and 14,548 attended less than once per week. The remaining 21,644 never attended any church services. The study looked at associations between religious service attendance and suicide, from 1996 through June 2010, using data from the Nurses’ Health Study.

The study was led by Tyler J. Vander Weele at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. This is the public health graduate school of Harvard University. According to Mr. Weele, “There were 36 suicide events during follow-up, with suicide incidents declining with increasing religious service attendance.”

The Nurses’ Health Study was conducted mostly among Catholic and protestant women. It had repeated measurements of religious service attendance and detailed information on dietary lifestyle, social, psychological and medical risk factors. It noted that suicide is among the 10 leading causes of death in the United States of America and the fourth leading cause of death from age 18-65 years. In addition, the study found that women who attended church services regularly were less likely to use antidepressants. They were also less likely to be current smokers and more likely to be married.

If nothing else, there is one thing that this study proves – Taking time to present ourselves for corporate worship is tremendously beneficial to those who do so. Even though the survey included only women, the benefits may well be the same for men. Not only is it beneficial spiritually, but also mentally, physically and socially. It also gives strong support to the admonition in Hebrews 10:25, that we should not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. Amen!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JULY 17, 2016

Welcome to FEA! We give God praised and thanks that you are here today. May you be ministered unto by Him.

This past week, Russian President, Vladimir Putin, officially signed into law a measure which is aimed at punishing any kind of religious evangelization outside of churches. Some observers have called it one of the most restrictive moves ever in post-Soviet history. The law, which is intended to curtail the spread of terrorism and extremism, has also been approved by the Russian Parliament’s upper chamber. It prohibits the sharing of faith in any place that is not a government-sanctioned house of worship.
Several Christian groups in Russia have already spoken out against the draconian measures, with the Seventh-day Adventist’s Moscow-based Euro-Asia Division stating that it is almost impossible for religious believers to comply with these requirements. Dr. Hannu Haukka, president of Great Commission Media Ministries, said that as a result of this legislation being approved, “the religious situation in the country will grow considerably more complicated and many believers will find themselves in exile and subjected to reprisals because of our faith.” He further said, “The church is appalled at the news of the new law. About 7,000 evangelical/protestant churches are in fasting and prayer at the moment over the news.”
Under this new law, foreign missionaries will not be allowed to preach in any church unless they have a work permit from the Russian authorities. Also any kind of discussion about God with unbelievers would be considered missionary activity and punishable by law. Religious activities even in private homes will not be allowed. Even more appalling, is the fact that anyone from the age of 14 found be preaching in public will be subject to prosecution, and every citizen is required to report religious activity to the authorities, or face punishment himself.
We, the church in the free world, must now give ourselves to prayer and intercession for our brothers and sisters in Russia. Let us pray that in the face of this new iron curtain of persecution the church will be victorious as God intends for His church to be. Remember what Jesus said, “…I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Mat. 16: 18). This is nothing more than persecution of Christians under the guise of preventing terrorism.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JULY 10, 2016

Welcome to FEA! We give God praised and thanks that you are here today. May you be richly blessed in Him.
Morning Star News recently reported that a 9-year-old boy named Nassif Malagara, was severely burned by his 36-year-old Muslim father, Abubakar Malagara. The incident occurred in eastern Uganda on June 9, after his father caught him not observing the Ramadan fast. But approximately four days earlier, the child had decided to give his life to Jesus Christ after a neighbor took him to a church outside the village. The pastor told Morning Star News that when the boy came to the church he remained after the service and told him that he wanted to receive Jesus as his personal Savior. The pastor said that he was somewhat hesitant in responding to the boy’s request. However, after his continued insistence, the pastor said he prayed with him and he left.
Following the experience, the boy expressed to his father and stepmother that he no longer wanted to attend the Islamic school or take part in Muslim activities. The father and stepmother became very angry when they learned that the boy had converted to Christianity. Despite Nassif’s conversion, the parents fully expected him to observe the Ramadan fast. He told Morning Star News that he starved for two days before he hid and went to his neighbor’s house for food.
On June 9, the boy’s father caught him eating and began to beat him with sticks. Although Nassif initially escaped from his father and hid, his father eventually found him and tied him to a banana tree. “He went into the house,” the boy reported, “and came back with a hot piece of wood. The banana tree had dry leaves, which caught fire and caused serious burns on my body.”
Fortunately for Nassif, his neighbors heard his screams, untied him from the tree and took him to a hospital to get his burns treated. His father was arrested by the police officers after residents alerted the authorities about the abuse.
Despite all the wickedness that surrounds us today, God is still at work, even in the lives of children. This 9-year-old boy, with his purpose and determination to serve God, puts a lot of adults to shame. Let us pray for little Nassif that the light of God would so shine through him that his father and mother would be able to see their way out of the darkness of Islam as he did.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JULY 3, 2016

Welcome to FEA! God be praised for allowing us the privilege of life in Him. Let us honor Him today and every day.

This past week, the Christian Post reported that the U.S. Supreme Court denied an appeal in the case of Stormans vs. Wiesman. This is a case which involves Christian pharmacists suing Washington State over a law mandating that pharmacists provide abortion-inducing drugs, despite their religious conviction against it. A majority of the eight-member body decided Tuesday morning that they would not hear the appeal, thus allowing a ruling from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to stand.

While the decision to reject a hearing for the case was given without comment, Justice Samuel Alito authored a decent to the decision. He was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Clarence Thomas. He made it abundantly clear in his descent that allowing the Washington State law to stand was “an ominous sign” for the future of religious freedom in the U.S.

According to Justice Alito “At issue are Washington State regulations, that are likely to make a Pharmacist unemployable if he or she objects on religious grounds to dispensing certain prescription medications,”. He further said, “Yet the Ninth Circuit held that the regulations do not violate the first Amendment, and this Court does not deem the case worthy of our time. If this is a sign of how religious liberty claims will be treated in the years ahead, those who value religious freedom have cause for great concern.”

Take note that this Supreme Court’s refusal to hear the Stormans appeal comes exactly one day after it ruled 5-3 that Texas law which demanded that abortion clinics have the same standards as surgical centers, was unconstitutional.

It is very obvious that we are living in a godless age. These are the times spoken of in 2Timothy chapter 3. They will be “…despisers of those who are good…” So whether the pharmacists in Washington have a God-given conviction against dispensing abortion- inducing drugs or not, that is of no concern to the Supreme Court. May God have mercy on us. We need to weep and howl before Him for our nation!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JUNE 26, 2016

We greet you today in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is because of His great love for us that we are here today.

According to International Christian Concern (ICC)), seven Christians have been arrested in Nepal for spreading the Gospel by handing our Bible handbooks to as many as 385 students. They have been charged with attempting to convert people to Christianity in the Hindu-majority nation. This has been an illegal act since 2015. The arrested Christians include principals of two schools, along with five staff members from Teach Nepal, a Christian organization.

ICC, which reports on Christian persecution around the world, revealed that a relative of one of those arrested, said that police officers are cracking down hard on Christians. The police treated these Christians as if they were common criminals, placing them all in handcuffs. They were asked to sign a document admitting that the distribution of Biblical material is a violation of the law, and pledging that they will never do it again, but they all refused to sign it. Believers in the country have spoken out against the 2015 law, stating that it can be used to oppress religious freedom and the growth of Christianity in the South Asian nation.

Tensions have been high between government authorities and Christians ever since the 2015 law took effect. Last September, Hindu extremists warned all foreign Christian missionaries to leave the country, accusing them of corrupting the nation. The statement from the radical Hindu group stated as follows: “from today the Morcha declares Nepal a Christian-free Hindu nation. We warn all Christian religious leaders to leave Nepal, and appeal to all those who converted to Christianity to return home (come back to Hinduism).” Bur Fides News agency noted that Christian missionaries have defied those warnings and have pledged to continue “their mission of dialogue and proclamation of the Gospel charity toward all.”

Let us keep the Nepalese Christians in prayer that God would sustain them in this difficult hour. In addition, let us pray for the Christian missionaries who are resisting the scare tactics of the devil and his agents. “Nay, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” (Rom. 8:37)

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JUNE 19, 2016

We greet you today in the name of our Heavenly Father. It is because of His great love for us that we are here. It is FATHER’S DAY and we welcome all of you to this service in which we will honor fathers. Our heavenly father is the foundation of all life. It is in Him we live and move and have our being. Any other foundation is unstable and is sure to crumble!

In the same way, fathers are the foundation of the home, the community and the nation. The heavenly father made them male (Adam) first then took the woman out of him. Adam was made with the potential to fulfill his God-given role; but in order to do so he had to cooperate with God and His Word. When Adam failed to do so, the foundation of the home experienced a serious crack which destabilized the first family and opened the door to envy, Jealousy and murder. The problems in our society have their root in our homes, and the problems in our homes have their root in the foundation of the home – the father! Men need to be the fathers God created them to be.

Our churches today are predominantly women; this is a reflection of men being out of place and the foundation being moved. The Bible says in Ps. 11: 3, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Even the church is powerless to correct the ills in society until the foundation that God has laid down for the family begins to function as God ordained it. Fathers need to return to God the Father and position themselves to be proper role models for their children and especially their sons. Dr. Myles Monroe in his book, The Principles of Fatherhood said, “Without fathers, the marriage, the family, the community, and the nation lay in shambles. A nation can be sustained, nurtured, and protected only when men are fathers like the Father.”

We thank God for those fathers who are standing firm in their homes, thus helping to eliminate the problems of drugs, teenage pregnancy, crime and loss of lives through violence. May God help and bless all fathers today and may you draw close to your Heavenly Father!
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

What Makes A Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it… Dad
For these things and so many more we praise God
for our Fathers, this Father’s Day and always.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JUNE 12, 2016

“I was glad when they said unto me; let us go into the house of the Lord.” Are you glad that you are here? Well, we are very glad.

The Santa Monica Observer recently reported that a 7-year –old student, who attends Desert Rose Elementary School, had been handing out Bible verses given to him in the form of short notes by his mother, Christina Zavala. The young boy distributed the Bible verses while standing on a public sidewalk outside the school premises. He also shared other Scripture verses and short Bible stories among his friends until a first grade teacher saw one of the notes. The teacher reportedly rebuked the boy publicly, then proceeded to call his parents and warned them that such actions were against the separation of church and state.

Nevertheless, in spite of the warning the 7-year-old boy was not deterred. He continued to distribute Bible verses at the school gate. But he and his parents were subsequently told by the school principal that their son’s actions were prohibited. Later that day, a Los Angeles deputy sheriff appeared at the family’s home to inform them that Desert Rose Elementary School had filed a report against the child for sharing Bible verses at school.

But the Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit litigation organization, which specializes in defending religious freedom, soon got involved. They sent a letter to the Palm Dale School District informing the administration of the correct interpretation of the clause which establishes the separation of church and state. They argued that pupils have the right to exercise freedom of speech even through printed materials. It was therefore improper, they concluded, to ban student discussion during lunchtime.

We are indeed living in difficult times. The devil is trying to force the church into silence. But thank God for those who refuse to be silent about the truth, even among our children. We also thank God for organizations like Liberty Council that are rising up in defense of God’s Word. In the book of Jude, verse 2, we are encouraged to “…earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints.” We cannot be frightened into confinement because of the voice of the enemy. We must resist and press ahead with the truth.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JUNE 5, 2016

We are so happy to be gathered today to praise and glorify the Lord. Let us worship Him in spirit and in truth.

According to EAG News, the Freedom from Religion Foundation threatened to sue the school district of East Liverpool, Ohio, over plans for the high school choir to sing the Lord’s Prayer at their graduation ceremony. This is a tradition which the school has maintained for the past 70 years. However, because of the threat, the school board decided to remove the song from the graduation program. “It was a decision made because we don’t have a lot of money, and we’d rather hire teachers than pay lawyers,” school board president, Larry Walton, told NBC news affiliate.

But on Sunday, May 22, when the valedictorian of this year’s graduating class stood at the podium to make his speech, he remained silent and then raised his hands. Upon doing this, the graduating class of East Liverpool High School stood and spontaneously recited the Lord’s Prayer in unison. At the end, they sat down to a roaring applause by the audience. The NBC news affiliate called it “an organized revolt.”

On the contrary, the East Liverpool Superintendent, Melissa Watson said, “It was totally spontaneous, apparently something the kids wanted to do. I had no knowledge of it. The crowd seemed to support it.” Only about 6 students reportedly chose not to participate in the prayer. The school board president said that district officials are now considering a nondenominational baccalaureate graduation service next year for students who prefer to keep God in the program.

It is becoming more and more apparent that all is not lost in our society. Regardless of the conditions, it remains an established fact that God has always had a remnant. We praise God for the stand these young people at East Liverpool High School took in the interest of God and His Word. We need to join the National Intercessors in prayer, for God to give His people all across our nation, the boldness to rise up and take a stand for Him. Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. Amen!

Just Like Me

Dear Lord, forgive our yielding to temptation;
Forgive our pride, our love of worldly things.
Have mercy on our love of sensual pleasure,
Compassion on the sins that self love brings.

It must be hard to understand us sometimes;
So very different is your heart and mind.
But wait, I just remembered that you do know
What it’s like to be a part of humankind.

You suffered just like we do, and you were tempted.
You lived with us so you could comprehend
The things that we go through each trying day,
So you could give us mercy, and be our friend.

Thank you for compassion and forgiveness;
Thank you for your love and empathy.
Thank you, Lord, for coming down from heaven
To experience life’s trials, just like me.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY MAY 29, 2016

We are so happy to be gathered today to praise and glorify the Lord today. Let us worship Him in spirit and in truth.

On May 9, a senior Iranian general announced that the country’s armed forces successfully tested a precision-guided medium- range ballistic missile two weeks earlier that could easily reach Israel. Brigadier General Ali Abdollahi was quoted as saying at a Tehran science conference, “We test-fired a missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers and a margin of error of eight meters.” The eight- meter margin means that the missile enjoys zero error, he told the conference.

According to U.S. and other Western powers, in March of this year, Iran performed a test of ballistic missiles. Among the tested missiles were two in particular with the words “Israel must be wiped off the earth” inscribed on them. Khamenei has repeatedly threatened to annihilate Israel. In September 2015, he even suggested that Israel would not be around in 25 years. In a quote posted on Twitter by Khamenei’s official account on September 9, 2015, he addressed Israel, saying the following, “You will not see next 25 years.” He further added that the Jewish state will be hounded until it is destroyed.

Upon reading this threat, I was reminded of what the late president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez did in 2010. He publicly cursed Israel three consecutive times. He called Israel a “terrorist and a murderous state” and cursed it by saying, “I want to condemn from the bottom of my soul, from the bottom of my guts … you state of Israel: cursed be the state of Israel! Cursed is terrorists and assassins!” In 2011, only one year later, Chavez was diagnosed with cancer in the gut – the area of his body from which he cursed Israel. On March 5, 2013, almost two years after his diagnosis, Chavez died from cancer in the gut.

On the strength of God’s covenant with His people Israel, the desire of Iran against Israel will surely backfire on them. God us commands us in His Word as believers that we should “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. They shall prosper that love thee.” (Ps. 122:6). Amen!

“It is time to renew your mind and become the person God wants you to be in every area of life.”

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY MAY 22, 2016

We are so happy to be gathered again to praise and worship the Lord today. May God grant you your heart’s desire.

According to International Christian Concern, a persecution watchdog group, about 80 Muslims at a refugee camp in Hamburg, Germany, have been born again and were recently baptized into Christianity. Pastor Albert Babajan who conducted the mass baptism of the refugees at the camp, revealed that one of the main motives for their conversion is disappointment with Islam. Shama, one of the converts to Christianity, explained her decision, saying, “I’ve been looking all my life for peace and happiness, but in Islam, I have not found it. To be a Christian means happiness to me.”

Pastor Babajan also admitted that some of the refugees who choose to convert to Christianity might be doing so because they fear they might be killed if they are sent back to their home countries, where they face terrorism from radical groups. But he also stated however, that he has a way of telling whether a person is genuine in his decision or not.

Many of these Muslim converts endure severe persecution in these camps. Earlier this month, a major report found that although many refugees are seeking protection at German refugee camps, there have been over 300 incidents of Christians being physically or sexually assaulted by Muslims in these camps because of their Christian faith. The report also alleges that a number of such incidents have been downplayed by German authorities because they are fearful of the growing anti-immigration sentiments in the country.

It is very evident that God is doing a mighty work in the Islamic world. Let us keep these Muslims who are being converted to Christianity in our prayers. Pray that God would give them the grace and strength they need in those difficult circumstances in Germany.
