BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY AUGUST 9, 2015

Thank God that we can come together here again in one accord. Thanks for coming. Let us expect great things today.

Recently, the Christian Post reported about the awful conditions of oppression and suffering in the Middle East because of the Islamists. However, in the midst of this chaos and oppression, a glimmer of hope has emerged as thousands of people from traditional Muslim backgrounds receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

Says Barazan Azeezi of Iraq, “I was a devoted Muslim and I often preached, but there was something missing. There was something empty about Allah and the Quran. Jesus appeared to me in a dream and open my eyes … what was missing were His love and peace.” Like many others disillusioned with the widespread oppression and injustice, Azeezi soon went looking for a Bible and started to read it and study it.  He further stated “I used to be a violent person internally and I was always afraid of Allah. I kept following instructions to satisfy him; however, as I read the Bible I began to love the true God and see His truth.”

Some new believers told Christian Post that Jesus appeared to them personally.  Others were led to missionaries or churches to find out more about Him. Even some hardened Islamic State killers have been touched.

It is to be noted that Muslims who embrace Christianity are ostracized by the community, disowned by their families and sometimes even killed for their faith.  In light of this, we need to be in constant prayer for our brethren in the Middle East. Let us pray that God would give them the grace and strength necessary to maintain their commitment to Him against all these odds.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY AUGUST 2, 2015

“O come let us worship and bow down…” We thank God that you have come to join us as we worship. May you be blessed.

This past week I was very blessed to read on godreport.com about the recent winner of the British Open golf tournament and the important role which the word of God played in his victory. Zack Johnson is a 39 year old committed Christian from Cedaras Rapids Iowa. Repeating the Scriptures in his heart consistently throughout the tournament, this born again golfer became one of only six golfers ever to win the Master’s at Augusta and the British Open at St. Andrew’s. This he did when he beat two others in the playoffs on July 20.

“I was patient, he said, “I had some Scripture going in my head. I thank the Lord. I feel like God gave me the ability to play a game …” Johnson said that he remained calm confessing in heart as he played, Ps 27:14, “Wait on the Lord: Be of good courage and He will strengthen your heart.” Zack’s ball marker for the green (golf hole area) has printed on it Pro. 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” Johnson’s wins so far have earned him over 37million dollars..

This is a clear demonstration of the power of the word of God when it is applied by the child of God. Zack Johnson is not just relying on his ability, but he is coupling it with the word of God and reaping tremendous success as a result. It can also work for you as a child of God. Remember what God said to Joshua: “This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but, you shall meditate therein day and night. For in so doing you shall make your way prosperous and you shall have great success.” (Josh. 1:8).

SNAPING, SNARLING THOUGHTS
Many years ago, my father and I hiked through Big Bend in Texas. It’s a national park now, but in those days it was rough country.

One night we were rolling out our sleeping bags when a couple with a dog asked if they could camp nearby. We welcomed their company and turned in for the night. They tethered their dog to a stake beside their tent.

Some hours later my father nudged me awake and turned his flashlight into the darkness. Illuminated by the light, we saw pairs of yellow eyes peering out of the shadows. A pack of snapping and snarling coyotes were closing in on the dog. Although we chased them off and our neighbors put the dog in their tent, we slept fitfully.

I think of that night when I read Psalm 59 and David’s twice-repeated imagery: “At evening they return, they growl like a dog” (vv.6,14). David was thinking of Saul’s army that was closing in on him. I think, however, of the thoughts that return to menace us. They come back at nightfall, snapping and snarling: “You’re stupid.” “You’re a failure.” “You’re useless.” “Who needs you?”

When we have such thoughts, we can revel in God’s unconditional, unending love. His steady devotion is our refuge in the dark night of self-doubt and fear (v.16)

Knowing that God loves us can dispel doubt.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JULY 26, 2015

Today is Sunday, the day when the church of Jesus Christ gathers to worship.  We are glad that you are here with us.  May God bless you mightily today.

This past week, the Christian Post reported that Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, said that he was not sure that he had ever asked God to forgive him. Trump was fielding questions at the Family Leadership Summit on Saturday July 18, 2015. The moderator, Frank Luntz, asked Donald Trump if he had ever sought God’s forgiveness. Trump replied, “I’m not sure I have ever asked God’s forgiveness. I don’t bring God into that picture.” Donald Trump further said for clarification, “When I go to church and when I drink my little wine and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of forgiveness. I do that as often as I can because I feel cleansed. I say let’s go on and let’s make it right,” This response of Donald Trump, stated the Post, led some to question his alleged Christian faith.

Let me say that I fully concur with all those who have questioned Trump’s alleged Christian faith. How can someone claim to be a Christian, having never repented and sought forgiveness from Almighty God?  In addition, how can one associate drinking wine and eating crackers with forgiveness and cleansing. This is nothing short of blindness of heart and mockery.  But these are the last days and the Bible says that deception would be rampant in this time. However, Jesus said,” If a man will do His will, He shall know the doctrine…” (Jn. 7:17). If Donald Trump or any other person really desires to know the truth about God and forgiveness of sin they can  know and experience it for themselves. Amen!

yo aborrezco el orgullo y la arrogancia,
la mala conducta y el lenguaje perverso.”

-Proverbios 8:13 (NVI)

ARROGANCE AND PRIDE

In The Screwtape Letters written by C. S. Lewis, a senior devil urges his young protégé to divert a Christian’s thoughts away from God and focus instead on the faults of the people around him at church.

During a Sunday service, I found myself distracted and somewhat annoyed by a person near me who sang loudly off key and was out of sync during the unison readings. But when we bowed our heads for a time of silent prayer, it struck me that the Lord must surely be more pleased with that other person’s heart than with the judgmental feelings He saw in mine.

A few days later I happened to read Proverbs 8 and was struck by verse 13: “Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.” Throughout this chapter, wisdom calls to us to gain an understanding heart (v.5) and to find life and obtain favor from the Lord (v.35). The alternative is to go through life with a superior attitude while dying inside in the process (v.36).

Pride is a sword that wounds the person who uses it along with those against whom it is used. Arrogance robs us of all God longs to give us, but “by humility and the fear of the LORD are riches and honor and life” (22:4).                                                                        – David McCasland

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JULY 19, 2015

We are happy to be gathered together today in obedience to God’s word. Let us be expectant as we worship.

Christianpost.com news recently reported about a group of Baptist pastors in Shelby, North Carolina, who have raised the Christian flag above the American flag at their local churches? The pastors explain that the Christian’s ultimate allegiance is to God, not government or country. One of the churches has even launched a website (GodBeforeGovernment.org).

These pastors have a very strong point, because flags are very powerful emotive symbols. This was demonstrated by the recent controversy over the Confederate battle flag. The pastors’ actions remind Christians that our ultimate allegiance belongs to God. As Jesus said, “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar’s, and unto God things which be God’s” (Luke 20:25). To put it simply, our ultimate loyalty must be to Almighty God.

In the Pledge of Allegiance our ultimate allegiance is clearly acknowledged: “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

If we analyze our pledge carefully, we will discover that we are declaring that the USA is under God. Therefore our ultimate allegiance should be to Him. His kingdom should take precedence over ours. For us to do otherwise would be to make our nation an idol. As true followers of Jesus Christ, our ultimate allegiance is to God. The early church understood this when they responded to the authorities of their day and said, “We ought to obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29)

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JULY 12, 2015

Once again we welcome you to God’s house. May He meet you where you are today and minister unto you.

According to Yahoo News, the Ten Commandments monument on the Oklahoma capital grounds must be removed. On June 30, 2015, the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled that it violates the state’s constitutional ban on using public property to benefit a religion. The court said that the Commandments in the monument are “obviously religious in nature and are an integral part of the Jewish and Christian faiths.” The 7-2 ruling overturned a decision by a district court judge who had ruled that the monument could stay.
Attorney General Scott Pruitt had argued that the monument was historical in nature and nearly identical to a Texas monument that was deemed constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. The Oklahoma justices said the local monument violated the state’s constitution, not the U.S. Constitution. Pruitt said “The Oklahoma Supreme Court got it wrong, the court completely ignored the profound historical impact of the Ten Commandments on the foundation of Western law.” He plans to ask the court for a rehearing and request that the monument be allowed to stay until the court considers his request.

What the attorney General argued was right. The Ten Commandments are the foundation of Western Law. The Bible tells us, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? (Ps.11:3). It is very clear that the Satan is seeking to eradicate every semblance of God from our nation. We really need to continue interceding for our land.

God loves us not because of who we are, but because of who He is.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JULY 5, 2015

We extend a very warm welcome from the F.E.A. family to you today . May God bless You.

I begin to write today with a very heavy heart. I can sense the displeasure of God with our nation over the recent decision by the Supreme Court to allow same sex marriages in our nation.

As we stood in the gap interceding for our land on Wednesday, the Lord spoke to me very clearly and said: “My wrath is over this nation; my wrath is over this nation. You were already straying from me, but now you have gone to the brink of the precipice. I must now do what I must do; I must do what I must do. Because of your intercession I can only tarry my hand of judgment, but I must do what I must do eventually. ” I must do what I must do eventually.”

We are all aware from the Word of God such conduct incurs the wrath of God. We saw it with Sodom and Gomorrah and the tribe of Benjamin. Why should we think that our nation will be spared? If that happens, God would have to apologize to those previously mentioned. The only thing that we can do is to pray that God would delay His judgment so that those among them may turn to God before it is too late.

We serve God by sharing His Word with others.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JUNE 28, 2015

This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Welcome to God’s house!
Another victory has been secured for religious freedom in America. The US Supreme Court has ruled that a small church in Arizona can post signs without interference from its local government. The Good News Community Church has about 30 members and meets in a senior center in a Phoenix suburb. It ran into trouble when the city of Gilbert began enforcing policies in 2005. These policies restricted the size, location, number and duration of signs advertising events.
Clyde Reed, the Pastor of Good News Church, filed a suit against the town. After the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, sided with Gilbert, attorneys for the Church appealed to the Supreme Court. Gilbert’s attorneys argued that the policy was not discriminatory because churches were not treated differently than from other non-commercial groups. But these arguments were not convincing enough for the high court. The Supreme Court voted 9-0 in favor of Clyde Reed.
According to Christianity Today, This is not the first time that Christians have clashed with local officials in Gilbert. In 2009, one resident was ordered to discontinue church meetings in his home which violated the city’s zoning code. The city council subsequently revised the code in March of the following to allow the meetings.
The time has come for us as God’s people to take our stand for God’s kingdom. We no longer will allow the Devil to push the church into a corner. Remember, “We are the head and not the tail”.

No life is more secure than a life surrendered to God.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JUNE 21, 2015

We greet you in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ, our soon coming King. But we greet fathers in very special way on this Fathers’ Day.

The Bible, experience and research teach us that children need the firm leadership and guidance which a father brings to the table. A child performs better in school if his father shows interest in his education. A child has more confidence when his father spends quality time with him and shows him affection. Children tend to learn from watching their fathers decisions in life and listening to their explanations.

A study, commissioned in 2002, revealed that men who were born after 1965, spent 50 percent more time per workday with their children than those born between 1946 – 1964 (baby boomers). This is an average of 3.4 hours, versus 2.2 hours.

All too often, the pressures of work and other commitments can make it easy for some men to feel they do not have the time to spend with their children. But we always make time to do the things we really want to do. When it comes to fathering our children, every moment counts.

HAPPY FATHERS’ DAY!

A SON AND HIS FATHER
SON: “Daddy, may I ask you a question?”
DAD: “Yeah sure, what is it?”
SON: “Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?”
SON: “I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “If you must know, I make $100 an hour.”
SON: “Oh! (With his head down).
SON: “Daddy, may I please borrow $50?” The father was furious.
DAD: “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior.”
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.
The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?
After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think:
Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $ 50 and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.
DAD: “Are you asleep, son?”
SON: “No daddy, I’m awake”.
DAD: “I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier. It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $50 you asked for.”
The little boy sat straight up, smiling.
SON: “Oh, thank you daddy!”
Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.
DAD: “Why do you want more money if you already have some?”
SON: “Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do.
“Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.”
The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness. It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $100 worth of your time with someone you love? If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family and friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.
Some things are more important.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JUNE 14, 2015

We give God praise and thanks for this another day of worship, another day to celebrate our King, Jesus.

There is a demonic game called Charlie that has been adopted in recent times by teens in our nation and beyond. The players sit around table with two pencils, one carefully balanced on top of the other. Underneath the pencils is a sheet of white paper marked with “yes” and “no” in cross-shaped grid. After the invocation, if the top pencil mysteriously swings to ‘yes,’ the players start asking Charlie questions.

Explanations have come from different quarters to try to offset the demonic nature of this game. But these explanations have done very little to calm reaction in the Christian community. In the Bahamas, a high school guidance counselor sent a letter to local pastors requesting them to visit the campus and pray for students who were summoning “a Mexican demon.” In Waynesboro Pennsylvania schools, many primary school children became so frightened over the game that teachers forbid students to play it or even discuss it. Robert Jeffress, a prominent Baptist pastor in Dallas, issued a warning about the game on Twitter saying, “Christians should run — not walk away from any attempt to contact or harness demonic powers through @Charlie Charlie.”

This is nothing else but a fresh attempt of the Devil to try to captivate the minds of our youths while they are still innocent. But, we must pray and intercede for our young people for God to manifest Himself to them in a convincing way, so that they can take up the rightful place in the kingdom of God.

OBEDIENCE IS WORSHIP
While I was traveling with a chorale from a Christian high school, it was great to see the students praise God as they led in worship in the churches we visited. What happened away from church was even better to see. One day the group discovered that a woman had no money for gas and they spontaneously felt led by God to take up a collection. They were able to give her enough money for several tankfuls of gas.
It’s one thing to worship and praise God at church; it’s quite another to move out into the real world and worship Him through daily obedience. The students’ example causes us to think about our own lives. Do we confine our worship to church? Or do we continue to worship Him, by obeying Him in our daily life, looking for opportunities to serve?
In 1 Samuel 15 we see that Saul was asked by the Lord to do a task; but when we review what he did (vv.20-21), we discover that he used worship (sacrifice) as an excuse for his failure to obey God. God’s response was, “To obey is better than sacrifice” (v.22).
It’s good to be involved in worship at church. But let’s also ask God to show us ways to continue to give Him the praise He deserves through our obedience. –Dave Branon

Spanish Scripture: (1 Samuel 15:22)
“Samuel respondió:«¿Qué le agrada más al Señor: que se le ofrezcan holocaustos y sacrificios, o que se obedezca lo que él dice? El obedecer vale más que el sacrificio, y el prestar atención, más que la grasa de carneros. ” -1 Samuel 15:22 (NVI)

Our worship should not be confined to times and places; it should be the spirit of our lives.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY JUNE 7, 2015

We give God praise and thanks for this another day of worship, another day to celebrate the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. We are honored that you have come join us.

For more than ten years, the Southern Baptist Convention International Mission Board (IMB) disqualified all candidates who spoke in tongues or who had been baptized in churches that disagreed with the convention’s view of baptism. However, that was recently changed, when the IMB’s trustees, prompted by their new president, David Platt, approved a new and simplified set of rules for the agency’s more than 4,800 missionaries.

The new rules now permit those who were baptized by immersion and who are members of a SBC church to be candidates. The changes also address the question of charismatic worship and prayer practices, which have been controversial for Southern Baptists. Under the previous rules, candidates who spoke in tongues were totally barred. But under the new rules, speaking in tongues does not disqualify missionary candidates. However, an overemphasis on charismatic gifts, like speaking in tongues, could still lead to discipline. These changes in rules on baptism and speaking in tongues, made national headlines when they were first adopted.

We praise God that even the Southern Baptist Convention International Mission Board (IMB) is beginning to realize that speaking in tongues is of God after all. This creates the opportunity for God to channel through this organization more powerful and anointed missionaries, who will now be more effective against the Devil and his kingdom. Hallelujah!

MORE THAN INFORMATION

How is behavior altered? In his book The Social Animal, David Brooks notes that some experts have said people just need to be taught the long-terms risks of bad behavior. For example, he writes: “Smoking can lead to cancer. Adultery destroys families, and lying destroys trust. The assumption was that once you reminded people of the foolishness on their behavior, they would be motivated to stop. Both reason and will are obviously important in making moral decisions and exercising self-control. But neither of these character models has proven very effective.” In other words, information alone is not powerful enough to transform behavior.
As Jesus’ followers, we want to grow and change spiritually. More than two millennia ago, Jesus told His disciples how that can happen. He said, “Abide in Me, and I in you. As a branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” (John 15:4). Jesus is the Vine and we, His followers, are the branches. If we’re honest, we know we’re utterly helpless and spiritually ineffective apart from Him. Jesus transforms us spiritually and reproduces His life in us – as we abide in Him. –Marvin Williams
