BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, May 10, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today, but especially our mothers on this Mother’s Day.

Today is Mother’s Day. It is indeed appropriate to have a day set aside as one on which we pay tributes of love and reverence to the mother who brought us into this world, nursed us through childhood and loved us even when we didn’t merit that love. Our mothers are the ones who cheer us in our successes and console us in our difficulties and failures.  Millions of mothers watched their sons and daughters march out into the real world to face the challenges of their own independent lives, praying and hoping for their success through it all.

The one who observes this day with his mother still alive is truly fortunate.  The opportunity still remains for him to speak a word of endearment and appreciation and honor. The observer of this day who has only the memory of a mother can know the richness and beauty and comfort of it by calling back the memory and cherishing it. Let Mother’s Day bring happiness where it can, and loving remembrance of the cherished days of the past.

Today will go down on the pages of history as a Mother’s Day riddled with the sudden loss of young mothers, vibrant mothers, middle-aged mothers, older mothers and grandmothers who were snatched away and often died alone leaving babies, toddlers, and children of all ages, husbands, relatives and friends in deep mourning all around the world. May God comfort and strengthen those families who are grieving today.

Had it not been for the scourge of this pandemic, churches would have been filled to capacity, restaurants crowded, floral shops overwhelmed and family gatherings countless! Nevertheless, we can still do the best we can to honor our mothers today, especially those who are needy, lonely, forgotten and abandoned by their own children.

May God’s blessing be upon every mother in every nation around the globe!  Amen!

“Charm and grace are deceptive and beauty is vain [because it is not lasting], but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised!” (The Amplified Bible, Proverbs 31:30).

  HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Apostle Edghill and Pastor Emily, along with the entire F.E.A. family, express our deepest condolences to Sis. Justina Joseph on the passing of her husband. May God comfort and strengthen you in this difficult hour.

The Joy of a Mother’s Faith

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world- our faith.” 1 John 5:4

The gift of faith has been given to every mother who loves the Lord with all of her heart. Jesus expects you to grow in your faith, to trust in Him, and to depend on Him, to help you overcome the difficulties and challenges you face. Jesus said in Matthew 17:20, “If you have faith as a mustard seed… nothing will be impossible for you.” So let the joy of the Lord spring from your lips, and praise the Lord for His many blessings.

Mothers’ prayers in the Bible:

THE YEAR OF GOD’S GLORY

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. We are happy to have you!

As the death toll from the corona virus rises and the number of confirmed cases escalates, fear and insecurity is gripping the 11 million residents of Wuhan, a city in China’s Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak. But according to Lucille Talusan, Asia correspondent for the Christian Broadcasting Network, Christians there have been out on the streets distributing masks and sharing the love of Jesus and the hope which the Gospel brings.

One Chinese pastor living in Wuhan, wrote to the international faith community, urging them to pray. He said that fellow pastors from around the world had been reaching out to them. “It is readily apparent that we are facing a test of our faith,” the pastor wrote. “The situation is so critical, yet we are trusting in the Lord’s promises, that his thoughts toward us are of peace, and not evil (Jer. 29:11), and that He allows for a time of testing, not to destroy us, but to establish us. Therefore, Christians are not only to suffer with the people of this city, but we have a responsibility to pray for those in this city who are fearful, and to bring to them the peace of Christ… Wuhan’s pestilence cannot separate us from the love of Christ; this love is in our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The corona virus, which causes a respiratory infection with mild to severe flu-like symptoms, has spread to at least two dozen countries, including the United States on a much smaller scale. Even as hospitals in the U.S. are gearing up to handle the potential spread of the virus, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the U.S. is ready to spend $100 million to help China and other affected countries. He added that the U.S. also helped ship to China 17.8 tons of donated supplies.

Persecution watchdog group, International Christian Concern (ICC), noted China’s Christian community’s efforts to provide hope and refuge to those suffering. They noted that encouraging sermons were being broadcasted to many Chinese communities through speakers placed on balconies. There is also a report of one Christian man who rode his bike to a pharmacy where people gathered and played a sermon through a portable speaker. A video circulated on social media showing Christians distributing face masks and Gospel pamphlets to passersby on the streets as a sermon played in the background. Additionally, Christians from other provinces have been offering their homes to host people who face housing discrimination as they flee from Hubei province.

We praise God for the Christian love that is being exhibited by our Christian brethren in China. Hebrews 13:2 says, “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for some have entertained angels unawares.” Let us remember to pray for the people of that nation that as a result of the love and kindness of God’s people, many will be won to Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord!

THE YEAR OF GOD’S GLORY

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. We are happy to have you!

Once again, archaeologists digging in Israel discovered artifacts buried for about three millennia. These archaeologists excavating at Tel Abel Beth Maacah, found a room dating back to the ninth century before Christ “that contained broken jars.” During the reign of King Ahab, Abel Beth Maacah was where the kingdoms of Israel, Aram and Phoenicia met. The city is mentioned in 2 Samuel 20 as a “city that is a mother in Israel” and part of “the Lord’s inheritance.”

Some of the jars that were found contained residues that suggested that the room was “an ancient wine cellar.” One of the jars had an inscription which was so faint that it required special equipment to see it. The inscription read “lbnayo,” which means “belongs to Benjamin.” As Biblical Archaeology Review put it, this finding suggests “that Abel Beth Maacah was an Israelite city at the time when Ahab was the Israelite King.”

Obviously, it’s important to be cautious and not over-interpret the data here. The field of biblical archaeology and archaeology in general, is a human endeavor subject to human failings like most other areas of study. Sloppiness, bias, fraud, or simple good-faith errors can lead to flawed interpretation of findings. But unfortunately, what has long passed for caution in archaeology is what would be better identified as a “hermeneutics of suspicion.” In other words, there is often a taken-for-granted assumption by critics, that the Bible cannot be trusted. Because it deals with religion and morality, it must be exaggerating, if not outright lying on its historical claims.

On the other hand, it’s more than a little disturbing that the Bible’s contemporaries always seem to get the benefit of the doubt, especially if their claims contradict the Bible. A classic case is the Exodus. Since no mention of the Exodus exists in Egyptian documents of the same period, many scholars assume that the biblical account did not happen. Though the kind of caution that accompanies findings like the one at Tel Abel Beth Maacah is prudent, such caution is seldom about the quality of the evidence behind the historicity of biblical accounts. Rather, it is more often about a predisposition to treat the Bible like any other religious text. But the Bible has proved itself to be unlike any other book, religious or otherwise.

Because the Bible actually tells the story of God’s presence and actions in the affairs of man in human history, it uncovers and presents the

historical details in ways other religious texts just don’t. This is why we, as God’s people, should always be excited when these historical details are discovered and validated. Let us pray for those who do not know God that these facts will serve to convince them of His existence and His interest in them as human beings. Amen!

THE YEAR OF GOD’S GLORY

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. We are happy to have you!

The leading Christian persecution watchdog nongovernmental organization Open Doors USA, recently released its 2020 World Watch List. The report highlights a drastic increase in attacks against Christian buildings and the imprisonment of Christians. It ranks the worst 50 countries in the world when it comes to the persecution of Christians and is based on data compiled by Open Doors’ operations in 60 countries. This year’s list names a number of repeat offenders such as North Korea, China, Iran, Somalia, and Eritrea as well as new countries where radical Islamic extremism wreaked havoc on Christian communities in 2019.

Open Doors rolled out the 2020 report at a briefing attended by representatives of the Trump administration, Congress, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom and prominent human rights activists. The report finds that about 260 million Christians experience “high levels of persecution” in the top 50 countries on the list. This is an increase of about 6 percent from the 2019 report. The report also states that 9,488 “churches or Christian buildings”, an average of 25 per day, were attacked during the 2019 reporting period (Nov. 1, 2018, to Oct. 31, 2019). By comparison, Open Doors noted in last year’s report that 1,266 churches or Christian buildings were attacked.

There has been an increase in the number of Christians that have been detained without trial, arrested and imprisoned. In the 2019 report it was 2,625, but in this year’s report it is 3,711.  However, the report indicates a decrease in the number of Christians killed for their faith. At least 2,983 Christians were killed for faith-related reasons during the last reporting period. That is an average of eight Christians killed per day. By comparison, an average of 11 Christians was killed per day (4,136) during Open Doors’ 2018 reporting period.  The decrease in killings according to Open Doors, was due to the Islamic terror group Boko Haram killing fewer Christians in Nigeria. Nigeria represents the most violent country in the world for Christians as far as the organization’s data can track.  The top 10 countries for Christian persecution on the 2020 World Watch list are, North Korea, Afghanistan, Somalia, Libya, Pakistan, Eritrea, Sudan, Yemen, Iran and India.

Let us use this information to help motivate us to pray for our persecuted brethren all across the world. The Word of God admonishes us as follows, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

THE YEAR OF GOD’S GLORY

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. We are happy to have you!

The Global Year of the Bible is now in progress as mission’s organizations, churches and other ministries are seeking to usher in a grassroots “Bible revival” in 2020. Evangelist Nick Hall, founder of Pulse, an evangelistic organization, said that many people, including Christians, have yet to learn to love the Word of God. A .D. 2020, The Global Year of the Bible, the first initiative of its kind, is a global movement created by a coalition of mission’s organizations, including World Evangelical Alliance, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Youth With a Mission, and American Bible Society. The goal is to motivate Christians and nonbelievers worldwide to authentically engage with the “most misunderstood book in history.”

As the movement aims to end Bible poverty worldwide, one of the problems in Western cultures today, organizers say, is that the Bible is becoming less significant as more children are growing up without exposure to the Gospel or a biblical worldview.  Barna research suggests that while almost half of Americans identify as Christian, only a small fraction of Americans hold a biblical worldview. Nick Hall explained that the aim is to inspire people to form a biblical foundation for themselves at a time in history when it is “so easy to be led by feelings and emotion.” He said it is important for the next generation to be “anchored on the rock and not on the shifting sands of culture.”

According to Hall, several youth organizations are rallying around the effort, including Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. In June, thousands of Christians will gather at the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to read the Bible and worship at Together 2020, an event that will feature some of the day’s most well-known Christian leaders and musicians. Hall said that the entire day will be a tribute to the Bible.  It will feature three hours of a public reading of Scripture from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. In addition to the sermons and performances, the organizers are working on obtaining state and federal declarations proclaiming 2020 as the “Year of the Bible. The Year of the Bible Movement has also taken to social media as followers are being encouraged to post selfies of themselves and their Bibles.

In 2 Kings 22, the people of Judah were without the Word of God for more than thirty years. Then there was a rediscovery of the Book of the Law. And as the people engaged the Word there was national repentance and revival. There is power in the Word of God to bring change in our nations. We pray to God that it will happen in this the Global Year of the Bible.

THE YEAR OF GOD’S GLORY

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, January 26, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. We are happy to have you!

Concerns are being raised internationally about the well-being of an Iranian Christian convert who was arrested just last week. The Human Rights Activists News Agency first reported on the arrest of 21-year-old Christian convert Fatemeh Mohammadi, who prefers to go by the name “Mary” since her spiritual conversion. Mary was detained near Azadi Square in Tehran, where protests occurred after the Iranian military shot down a Ukranian passenger plane and killed 176 people. Although several people were arrested in connection with protests that took place in multiple cities, it is not clear whether Mary was involved in any of the protests.

Article 18, a United Kingdom-based watchdog group that promotes religious freedom and tolerance for Christians in Iran, reports that Mary published a series of tweets on the day she was arrested, saying that the Iranian people faced “soft repression” in Iran as the regime creates “false beliefs through selective coverage of the news.” She reportedly used hash tags in her tweets that translate to English as “hard-pressed” and “suppression is the norm.” She reportedly accused the regime of spreading ”lies that are bigger and more repetitive to make them more believable.”

Iran Human Rights Watch reported on Sunday that even a week after Mary’s arrest the authorities have released no information on her whereabouts and her condition. This is not the first time that Mary has been detained by authorities in the Islamic Republic. She was arrested in 2017 during a raid on an underground house church meeting and was later sentenced to six months in prison. She served her time in the women’s ward of Iran’s notorious Evin prison.

She wrote an open letter to Iran’s Minister of Intelligence Mahmoud Alavi last May accusing him of targeting Christians and violating the constitution. In her letter, she also questioned why Christian converts in Iran must refrain from talking about their faith in Iran, while Muslims are free to discuss their faith in public settings.  Johnnie Moore, an evangelical communications executive who serves on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, tweeted his support for Mary, praying for God to protect her and “everyone subject to those in Iran who traffic in inhumanity and who wield injustice to preserve their own personal power.”

Let us also remember to pray for Mary, who at 21 years old is taking such a bold stand for the Lord in a society that is so brutal to Christians.  Pray for her protection and that God would give her all that she needs to be His light In the midst of that darkness.  Amen!

THE YEAR of GOD’S GLORY

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, January 19, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. We are happy to have you!

According to the Christian Post, Puerto Ricans have been praying under a massive cloud of uncertainty about the future since earthquakes began to affect the island. On Tuesday, January 7, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake left one person dead and significant damage to buildings. On one occasion as the people of Puerto Rico formed a massive prayer circle in Ponce and prayed, there was a rainbow in the skies above them. Earthquake aftershocks are causing damage and fear. Thousands are sleeping outdoors to avoid calamity. But there is a refusal by many to be mentally defeated and they possess a faith fuelled belief that this too will pass.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has highlighted the likely scenarios that could play out for the island over the next three weeks.  According to the agency, there is a 3% chance of an earthquake significantly larger than the Magnitude 6.4 that occurred on January 7. But it is felt that this is a very small probability. If such an earthquake were to occur anyhow, it would have serious impacts on communities nearby. This size earthquake would also trigger its own aftershock sequence, so the rate of small and moderate earthquakes would increase again.

The USGS noted that the most likely scenario they expect to unfold, based on the current seismic activity, is that aftershocks will continue to decrease in frequency and will be significantly lower in magnitude than the Magnitude 6.4. It was also noted that an earthquake occurring of similar size as the magnitude 6.4, could also occur in an event called a “doublet.” A doublet emerges when two large earthquakes of similar size occur closely in time and location. If this happens, additional damage as well as increased aftershocks would be likely.

“The earthquakes in these scenarios would occur in the areas where aftershocks are happening now. Earthquakes in this sequence will continue to occur for days, months, or potentially years to come. It is very unlikely the aftershocks will cease completely within the next month,” the USGS said.

Let us remember to pray for Puerto Rico that in the midst of this situation, the voice of God will be heard in the lives of the residents and that they will respond positively to His call. God uses these situations to get our attention. The Bible says,” And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.”(Luke 21:11). We are living in the last days.

THE YEAR OF GOD’S GLORY

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, January 12, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. We are happy to have you!

It is only the second week in the new year and China has announced already that fromFebruary 1, 2020, it will be imposing harsh new measures for the purpose of governing religious groups. These measures will require all religious personnel to support and implement total submission to the Chinese Communist Party. Of course this is causing grave concern among Chinese Christians. According to Asia News, these new administrative rules will complete the Regulations on religious affairs which were revised two years ago and implemented on Feb. 1, 2018.

Under the new rules, every aspect of the life of religious communities, including formation, gatherings, annual and daily projects, is subject to approval by the government’s religious affairs department. In addition, all religious personnel are required to support, promote and implement total submission to the Chinese Communist Party among all members of their communities. Article 5 of these rules reads as follows: “Religious organizations must adhere to the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, observe the constitution, laws, regulations, ordinances and policies, adhere to the principle of independence and self-government, adhere to the directives on religions in China, implementing the values of socialism …”

The articles also make it abundantly clear that all religious organizations must spread the principles and policies of the Chinese Communist Party, as well as the national laws and regulations to their people. Religious organizations must educate their members to support the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and support the socialist system, thus adhering to and following the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The law stipulates that without the approval of the religious affairs department of the people’s government, or registration with the civil affairs department of the people’s government, no activities can be carried out in the name of a religious group.

With these latest measures in place, the government will use them to further tighten the noose on religious groups. Persecution watchdog group, International Christians Concern, is issuing a warning to this end. We must, therefore, pray now even more than ever for our Christian brethren in China that God would give them the grace and strength they need to take a stand for Him in this difficult hour.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, January 05, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. We are happy to have you!

While many are busy predicting gloom and doom for 2020, a network of churches and ministry leaders are aiming to host the “largest Christian outreach” crusade in history. This is scheduled to take place in May across dozens of African countries in a movement that will culminate on Pentecost Sunday. This movement is called One God – One Day – One Africa (1GDA). The hope is to “blanket Africa with prayer.” 1GDA is a continental festival of unity, the scope of which has never been seen before, according to organizer Jennifer Wilde.

The crusade events will be organized by local churches, religious leaders and ministries in partnership with foreign ministries and leaders. The aim, Wilde said, is to have evangelistic crusade events held in as many African countries as possible. The organizers have partner ministries lined up to lead and organize crusade events in at least 30 African countries. But they are calling on churches around the world to help organize crusade rallies in the remaining countries. “It is amazing, all the unity that God is bringing about for One God – One Day – One Africa,” Wilde told The Christian Post.

The rallies will feature local singers and preachers to best reach their local populations. They will be live-streamed and broadcast to millions, according to Wilde. Funding will be provided to organizers to take care of basic needs such as renting crusade grounds and buying sound equipment. 1GDA aims to send 10,000 local evangelists to villages and towns throughout Africa to bring the Good News to their neighbors. “It is not just one denomination,” Wilde said. “We are all one body and God has really put everyone together for this. This will be the largest Christian outreach actually in history in the world. There’s nothing like this that has really ever been done covering an entire continent, not just a country, but a continent with the Gospel of Jesus in one day.”

Wilde explained that she got the vision from God for the 1GDA celebration when she was a young Christian, but it had seemed impossible over three decades ago when there was no internet or cell phones. In recent times God spoke to her and said, “Now is the time to do this.” Partner organizations involved in this event include Christ for All Nations, the Christian Broadcasting Network, Iris Global, the Washington-based African Enterprise and the Maryland-based Jesus is Lord Crusades.

We thank God for those Kingdom people who are focusing on more positive and meaningful things for 2020 such as the expansion of God’s kingdom. May God’s blessing be upon this effort.  One more year brings us

Happy New Year

THE YEAR OF GOD’S GLORY

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, JANUARY 28, 2018

We give God praise and thanks for today. Let us enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Welcome!

Legislators at the Iowa statehouse have introduced a bill that would permit schools to teach the Bible as an elective course. But some are opposing it as an extreme piece of legislation. State representative Dean Fisher along with 11 other republicans recently introduced house file 2031 which would direct the state department of education to prepare material and teacher training for a high school elective course that would focus on the Bible. The Des Moines Register quoted Fisher as saying, “Basically I want to give students the opportunity to study the Bible from the perspective of its impact on history and culture.”

Last year the Freedom From Religion Foundation filed a lawsuit against Mercer County Schools for offering an elective Bible course that existed in some capacity since 1939, but a federal judge David A. Faber dismissed it. He stated the following, “ The Supreme Court has by no means established an absolute bar on the Bible being taught and studied in the public school system. “

It is noteworthy that Iowa is joining a growing number of states which now have laws allowing Bible courses to be taught in their public schools. Among them are Arizona, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. In June last year, Kentucky Republican Governor, Matt Bevin, signed a bill allowing public schools to teach a course on the Bible. He said at the time, “The idea that we would not want this to be opinion for people in school that would be crazy. I don’t know why every state would not embrace this, why we as a nation would not embrace this.”

It would seem that there is a Bible revolution taking place in the schools across our nation. We must pray that this would become so contagious even to the point of engulfing the entire school system in our nation. Even though the Bible may be taught as a course, the fact remains that the children of our nation will be in the presence of the Word of God. And Hebrews 4: 12 tells us the following, “For the Word of God is quick (living, relevant) and powerful and shaper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Amen!

CONDOLENCES
Apostle Edghill and Pastor Emily, along with the entire F.E.A. family, express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Brother Silton Isaac, who passed away on Wednesday, 24th on the Mainland. May God comfort and strengthen you in this difficult hour.

You Are a Sharp Instrument in the Hand of the Lord
Act Now! You are a sharp instrument in the hand of the Lord, able to thresh the highest, strongest and most stubborn enemy. To thresh means to separate grain with a flail or by the actions of a revolving mechanism. It’s a violent or noisy movement, typically involving hitting something repeatedly.
God wants you to become a terror to those things that have been a terror to you. His Word says He will make you into this new instrument-new meaning fresh, rebuilt and repaired.
He will make you sharp-determined, eager and prepared, having teeth, meaning to have a two-edged sword. When the enemy comes, have no fear. You will crush, crumble, stamp, beat in pieces, bruise and make dust of the enemy with the Word of God. The enemy will be dispersed by the whirlwind. God will cause you to rejoice and spin around with exceeding great joy!

My prayer to activate, cultivate and transform my world;
“Father, I rejoice in You! Because You make me a new, sharp,
threshing instrument having teeth, the enemy is crushed and
crumbled. I will now be a terror to those things that have tried
to terrorize me.”
