Welcome to FEA! May God minister unto the needs in your life today as we minister unto Him together.

During the past week we’ve all been watching with concern as Hurricane Harvey ravaged the countless communities and cities in South Texas. Final reports indicate that the storm’s heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding were unprecedented and exceeding expectations by far. ABC News reported that the United States government deployed over 3,000 national and state guard service members, as well as 500 vehicles and 14 aircrafts to assist in rescue and recovery operations.

Although it is reassuring to see the ways government workers and officials have responded to the disaster, many still wonder if there is anything they can do to help. From so far away, it is easy for us to feel powerless. Often, our immediate reaction is to try to find the nearest plane or some other mode of transport and hope that our presence at the scene of the crisis will ultimately help serve those in need. Or, it may be the exact opposite, we may just sit anxiously watching the television reports, wringing our hands in frustration and do nothing.

However, there is something that we all can do as Christians. We can all pray. As followers of Jesus Christ, our first inclination in times of struggle, strife and disaster should be to fix our eyes not on the disaster itself, but rather on our God and Father who Himself is a present help in trouble. When we find ourselves slipping into dangerous patterns of worry on behalf of those in need, prayer is our best and surest remedy. As I always tell you, when we talk to God we are talking to somebody who can do something about everything. Nothing is beyond Him. So let us pray for the victims and their families. Pray for needed provision and for God’s hand of preservation to keep people from diseases. Most of all, pray that as a result of this crisis individuals will submit themselves to Almighty God.

After we have prayed, we need to follow Jesus as He guides us in creative ways to help in the situation. This can be an opportunity for God’s goodness to be manifested through us. Amen!

10 Reasons David is Called “A Man After God’s Own Heart”

Acts 13:22 says, “After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.‘”

The Barna researchers recently released the results of a survey on Americans and prayer. They surveyed 1,015 American adults ages 18 and older during the first week of June, 888 of whom identified as Christians and past Christians. The respondents were asked the following question: “What does the content of your prayers most often pertain to?” According to the data, 62 percent of respondents who pray regularly do so with varying motivations. The most common one is to offer gratitude and thanksgiving.

The needs of their family and their community are a prayer topic for many Americans. A total of 61 percent identified it as a motivation, while 49 percent pray out of a need for personal guidance in times of crisis. Just less than half of the praying adults most often direct prayers toward their own health.

Nearly 90 percent of praying American adults direct their prayers to “God” although they don’t all pray to the same deity. Addressing “God” was the most common response among almost every segment surveyed. Only 24 percent of Americans report praying most often about their concerns regarding the nation or government. The older generation seem much more likely to pray for this than the younger generation, the results show.

According to the Barna Group’s Editor-in-Chief, Roxanne Stone, prayer is by far the most common spiritual practice among Americans. No matter how politics and culture shift, Americans seem to keep praying, with the data remaining constant.”The vast majority of Americans — no matter their religious affiliation or non-affiliation — participate in some kind of prayer activity. Barna has found this to be true consistently over the last several decades. The numbers have barely changed from year to year,” she said.

It is good to know that the people in our nation are engaging in prayer. But let it be known that the only God who answers prayer is the true and living God – the God of Israel. He said “Call unto me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know.” (Jer. 33:3).

The massive rise of Christianity in Iran, especially among young people, continues despite the Islamic government’s efforts to suppress it. Islamic leaders admitted that more and more young people are choosing to follow Jesus. According to Mohabat News, which reports on the persecution and state of Christianity in Iran, the “exponential rate” of Christian growth has been a factor for the last couple of decades. Even leading Islamic seminary officials have pointed to accurate reports which indicate that the young people in Iran are becoming Christians and attending house churches. They are greatly alarmed over it and are blaming foreign influence for the conversions. Ayatollahs have slammed government officials for their negligence in preparing counteracting strategies to stop the spread of Christianity.

Mohabat News pointed out that this high rate of conversions to Christianity among Iranian youth is taking place despite the rigorous Islamic indoctrination of the youth in their families and the educational system. They also reported that the Islamic government of Iran dedicates massive budgets to the support of Islamic organizations that promote Islam among the young people within and without Iran’s borders.

But it is clear that regardless of such efforts, Iranian youth are becoming increasingly distant from Islam. This is indeed a cause for grave concern for the Iranian Islamic government. The New York-based Center for Human Rights in Iran said in a report in July that Iranian authorities are increasingly cracking down on Christian converts in the country, arresting and imprisoning believers in an effort to suppress Christianity.

There is a strong belief among Church leaders, that millions can be added to the church in the next few years because of the spiritual hunger and disillusionment that exist within the Islamic world. Let us remember to pray for those who are coming to Christ in Iran that God would preserve and keep them in that difficult situation. Amen!

A team of archaeologists may have located the home of three of Jesus’ disciples. It was found in a lost Roman imperial city off of the Sea of Galilee. Researchers from Kinneret College believe they have found the Roman city of Julias, which was built as part of the town of Bethsaida. This is identified in John 1:44 as the hometown of Philip, Andrew, and Peter. The team of archaeologists said that the multi-layered site discovered on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee, in the Bethsaida Valley Nature Reserve, is the exact location according to a report in the Israeli news paper- Haaretz, last Sunday.

The report states that the key discovery is that of an advanced Roman-style bathhouse. This fact, according to the paper, indicates that a city was definitely there and not just a fishing village. The excavators found walls with gilded glass tesserae for a mosaic, an indication of a wealthy and important church. Kinneret College said in a statement that it is widely believed that a church used to be on the former site of the Apostles’ home, thus adding evidence that the recent find is legitimate. “The discovery of dozens of golden glass mosaics in the previous season and the present season attests to the fact that the church was an important and magnificent place,” stated the college. “A Christian traveler of the eighth century CE notes that in the house of Tsaida the church is in honor of Peter and Andrew — two of Jesus’ apostles.”

This is not the first major find by researchers connected to Kinneret College regarding the New Testament. Last August, researchers under Motti Aviam found a first century synagogue near Mount Tabor. This is the first synagogue discovered in the rural part of the Galilee and it confirms historical information about the New Testament, which says that Jesus preached at synagogues in Galilean villages.

We thank God for these archeological discoveries that are confirming scripture. Let us pray that persons who do not know Jesus will be convinced about the truth of God’s Word upon hearing about them.

To Do List From God

I ran my life in search of worldly things;
My time and will were firmly in control.

Welcome to Frenchtown Evangelistic Assembly worship service. May you be blessed as you worship today.

Two Christian pro-life teenagers have recently won a settlement against their school district. The teenagers were harassed by their gay Pennsylvania public school vice principal, Zach Ruff, when they were protesting abortion outside their school on a public sidewalk. Ruff confronted the teens angrily and tried to shield the other students from seeing the protest as they were leaving school on April 21. Conner and Lauren Hanes who are brothers said they were trying to expose the negative impact of abortion which has claimed the lives of 60 million unborn babies since the procedure became legal in 1973.

According to the Alliance Defending Freedom, the Downingtown Area School District came to a settlement and has agreed to clarify its policies to assure that the public sidewalks surrounding the district’s schools are open to those wanting to use their First Amendment rights to publicly demonstrate, even if what they are demonstrating is at odds with school officials’ political views.

In a video posted to YouTube, the siblings told the administrator they are simply trying to expose “the holocaust that’s happening in America.” Ruff responded by stating that there is “no Halocaust happening in America.” Conner Haines then told Ruff that “these [unborn children] are the people that are being murdered,” adding, “these are image bearers of God.” Ruff replied, “They are not children they are cells.”

Despite the trend of young people to gravitate toward the worldly beliefs and ideologies, it is heart-warming to note that there are still many teenagers who are embracing the knowledge of the true God and are willing to take their stand for Him publicly. God told Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; and before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations” (Jer. 1:5). God bless the two young men and may they have an ever growing influence on other young people for God.

Received–Not Earned

What if prospective parents approached an adoption agency with these questions?

We just have a question or two before we come in and sign the adoption papers. Will he be a good child? Healthy always? Oh, and can he fix his own meals? Do his own laundry?
Can you imagine prospective parents saying that? No adoption agency would put up with it. They’d respond with Wait a minute. You don’t understand. You don’t adopt this child because of what he has; you adopt him because of what he needs. He needs a home.

The same is true with God. John 3:17 says,
“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

He doesn’t adopt us because of what we have. He doesn’t give us His name because of our intelligence, or our wallet or good attitude. Adoption is something we receive —not something we earn!

We give God praise and thanks for our gathering together again in His name. May He be glorified by us today!

A new study out of Switzerland shows that people who are generous and focus on helping others are happier than those who act on their own self-interests. Philippe Tobler and Ernst Fehr from the Department of Economics at the University of Zurich, along with a team of international researchers, conducted an experiment with 50 people in a lab. The team sought to investigate how areas of the brain communicate to produce feelings of happiness.

The study’s participants were promised 25 Swiss francs a week for four weeks. Twenty-five of them were asked to spend the money on others; the other 25 were told they could spend it on themselves. The participants consistently reported that giving made them feel good. MRI scans of their brains were done simultaneously and showed that one area of the brain triggers a response in another area that is related to happiness.

“Generosity and happiness improve individual well-being and can facilitate societal success,” they said. “However, in everyday life, people underestimate the link between generosity and happiness and therefore overlook the benefits of … spending” on others, they continued. Christian Smith, a University of Notre Dame sociologist and Hilary Davidson, note in the book, The Paradox of Generosity: Giving We Receive, Grasping We Lose, that generosity has a positive effect on the brain and a lack of generosity can have a negative effect. Smith cited a study showing that stingy people have been shown to secrete more cortisol in the brain, a stress hormone that is known for creating “wear and tear” on the body.

Once again the Bible has been proved to be true. “The liberal soul shall be made fat, and he that watereth shall be watered also himself” (Proverbs 11:25). “…It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:25). Let us open our hearts and hands to those around us whenever the opportunity arises and keep on giving!

Fruit Of The Spirit

Part 2: Fruit of the Spirit – Visible Growth in Jesus Christ

Longsuffering (patience) — We are “strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness” (Colossians 1:11). “With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love” (Ephesians 4:2).

Gentleness (kindness) — We should live “in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left” (2 Corinthians 6:6-7).

Goodness – “Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power” (2 Thessalonians 1:11). “For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth” (Ephesians 5:9).

Faith (faithfulness) – “O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth” (Isaiah 25:1). “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith” (Ephesians 3:16-17).

Meekness – “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted” (Galatians 6:1). “With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love” (Ephesians 4:2).

Temperance (self-control) – “But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love” (2 Peter 1:5-7).

Praise the Lord! We are happy to be together again, we give God praise and thanks for another Sunday to come together for corporate worship.

The Bible teaches us that all people were meant to have friendship with God. It began that way, but ever since Adam and Eve, man has fought against that relationship. Instead of living in peace with God and each other, we find conflict and disagreement… or worse!

Man has a habit of living for himself. We often ignore God and pursue our own plans. Our selfish choices do not bring us life. In fact, they earn us a death sentence. God understands that mankind battles with sin. He understands that we are frustrated with how things turn out. He also knows that left to ourselves, we would not always do the right thing. So, God stepped in and made a way for us to find forgiveness and begin again.

How did God do this? He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to live among us. He taught us a better way. Jesus was perfect in every way, but mankind was not happy with God’s way forward. While Jesus taught us to love God and each other, evil men plotted his death upon a cross. They took him away and tried his case unfairly. The same people that Jesus taught, healed and fed, forced a Roman Governor to sentence Him to death on a cross.

Jesus died to take our sins on His shoulders. He paid the price for the wrongs we have done. Because He died in our place, we can find God’s forgiveness. But the story did not end there!

Jesus paid the price for our sins by dying on that cross. Three days later, He rose from the dead. Hundreds of witnesses saw Jesus alive again before he rose to heaven. They heard Jesus promise that when we accept Him here on earth, we would be able to be in heaven with Him when we die.

Now, Jesus is willing to forgive our sins. He knows our weaknesses. He offers to make a way for us, but only if we will ask Him. If you want to be free from your sins, if you want to begin again, ask Him for forgiveness. It is not complicated.

Simply talk to God and say: “Thank you, God, for loving me and sending your Son to die on the cross for the wrongs I have done. I am sorry for the things I have done that hurt You. I choose to make Jesus the Lord of my life. Help me to be the kind of person that You want me to be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

God Loves You! God wants a relationship with you. He made a way for us to find forgiveness and begin again. Start that relationship with him today for He says,
“Behold, now is “THE ACCEPTABLE TIME,” behold, now is “THE DAY OF SALVATION”. (2 Corinthians 6:2)

Fruit Of The Spirit
Part 1: Fruit of the Spirit – Visible Growth in Jesus Christ

“Fruit of the Spirit” is a biblical term that sums up the nine visible attributes of a true Christian life. Using the King James Version of Galatians 5:22-23, these attributes are: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. We learn from scripture that these are not individual “fruits” from which we pick and choose. Rather, the fruit of the Spirit is one ninefold “fruit” that characterizes all who truly walk in the Holy Spirit. Collectively, these are the fruits that all Christians should be producing in their new lives with Jesus Christ.

Fruit of the Spirit – The Nine Biblical Attributes
The fruit of the Spirit is a physical manifestation of a Christian’s transformed life. In order to mature as believers, we should study and understand the attributes of the ninefold fruit:

Love – “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:16). Through Jesus Christ, our greatest goal is to do all things in love. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).

Joy – “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).

Peace – “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).

Once again we welcome you as we gather to worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. May His name be glorified in us.

A Chinese woman named Ting, who had formally been involved in Shamanism has dedicated her life to Jesus Christ after seeing Him in a dream while on her deathbed. Shamanism deals in the realm of darkness and demons. Ting had the ability to attract “thousands” of people to seek her counsel. But one day her health started to deteriorate. She was left completely paralyzed, and doctors were unable to explain her illness.

As she was on her deathbed, Ting said she experienced a dream in which she saw Jesus. “I was in the back seat of a taxi as my brother drove me toward an endless darkness. But then three men, who were wearing brilliant white robes, approached. But their light was so bright, I couldn’t see their faces. They told me I must make a choice. And as they spoke, two other men wearing black robes invited me to follow them. I knew in my heart one of the men wearing a white robe was Jesus. So I followed Him.”

When she woke up, she realized that she was healed. Ting knew it was Christ who healed her, and so she decided to “place her life into His hands.” Ting rejected her former life of involvement with demons and darkness. “But despite the persecution and abuse she suffered at the hands of her family, she decided to become a Christian.

According to a report in Open Doors, Chinese Christians, especially in Ting’s rural area, face severe persecution. Conversion to Christianity is considered to be an “utter disgrace,” and it causes great strains on one’s relationship with one’s family. Christians are disowned by loved ones and banished into exile. Ting’s story serves as a reminder that nobody lives “outside the reach of Jesus.” For God so loved the world; that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

Once again we welcome you as we gather to worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. May His name be glorified in us.

Two U.K. preachers, Michael Overd and Michael Stockwell were convicted of “religiously aggravated public disorder” in February. They were accused of hate speech against Muslims and gay people after simply reading from the King James Bible and affirming that “Jesus is the only way to God” before a crowd of 100 people.

Today, they are enjoying a sweeping victory after winning their appeal at the Bristol Crown Court. At the appeal hearing Overd said that he does not hate Muslims or gays, but while he disagrees with homosexual people, he doesn’t find them to be worse than anyone else. He calls himself a “Christian soldier,” and has vowed to be back on the streets preaching. Stockwell, a former U.S. marine in responding to the decision of the court, remarked that people should have the freedom “to express their beliefs in public without risk of harm, violence or other repercussions.”

Bristol Crown Court judges stated that despite witness reports that the preachers had been intentionally trying to wind people up; there was no evidence provided that the offense was religiously aggravated. Andrea Williams from the Christian Legal Center which was supporting the preachers said, “At a time where Christians are becoming increasingly fearful about expressing their beliefs in the public space, this is a welcome and needed result. We are grateful that the judge made the right decision today.”

Jesus has commanded us to go into the entire world and preach the gospel to everyone. He also assures us of His abiding presence with us in the process. Therefore, we have no need to fear no matter what the devil may try to do against us. In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loves us. Amen!

Freely You Have Received, Freely Give

Then Peter came up to Him and said, Lord, how many times may my brother sin against me and I forgive him and let it go? [As many as] up to seven times? Jesus answered him, I tell you, not up to seven times, but seventy times seven

I don’t know about you, but I am glad that God does not put a limit on how many times He will forgive us. Regardless of how many times we fall short, He continues to demonstrate His love for us by forgiving us and welcoming us back time and time again.

But isn’t it amazing how we are willing to keep receiving forgiveness from God, yet how little we want to give forgiveness to others? We freely accept mercy, yet it is surprising how rigid, legalistic, and merciless we can be toward others.

The bottom line is this: As people who have been forgiven much, it is important we learn to share that same forgiveness with others. We can’t live in close relationship with God while we harbor bitterness, resentment, and unforgiveness toward another person. These are chains that will keep us spiritually bound up and far from God’s best in our lives.
If there are people who have hurt you and you are finding it difficult to forgive them, just remember all the things God has forgiven you for. When you look at it that way, forgiveness becomes something much easier to give to others.

God’s grace helps us do things easily that would otherwise be hard.

A report in The Christian Post of a study by Barna Group explored the faith profile of 131 cities in America to identify the top 10 most Bible-minded cities as well as the least Bible-minded cities in 2017. Barna’s annual Bible-Minded Cities report, in partnership with American Bible Society, is based on interviews with 76,505 adults over a 10-year period. And it found that Chattanooga in Tennessee is the most Bible-minded city in America, for the second year in a row.

The evangelical polling organization determined “Bible-mindedness” by asking the respondents how regular they were in reading the Bible and what they thought of its accuracy. Based on the results, the group found that 50 percent of the population of Chattanooga is Bible-minded. Birmingham, Anniston and Tuscaloosa in Alabama have taken the second spot, with 49 percent. In 2015, these cities had the first spot. Roanoke and Lynchburg in Virginia, with 48 percent, are the third most Bible-minded. Then it’s back to Tennessee, with the Tri-Cities area, also around 48 percent, coming in at fourth place. Shreveport in Louisiana (47 percent) has taken fifth place.

The next five are also from the Southern “Bible belt.” They include Charlotte in North Carolina (46 percent); Springfield in Missouri (46 percent); Little Rock and Pine Bluff in Arkansas (44 percent); Knoxville in Tennessee (44 percent); Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson in South Carolina and Asheville in North Carolina (44 percent).

Nationally, only 25 percent of the population is considered Bible-minded, according to Barna. Individuals considered to be Bible-minded are those who report reading the Bible in the past week and who strongly assert the Bible is accurate in the principles it teaches.

As we celebrate 241 years of independence, let us be reminded that this great nation was built on the principles of the Bible. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12) should always be our guiding light.

What’s the big idea?
While the other three gospels portray Jesus as the King, the Servant, and the Son of Man, John portrays Jesus as the Son of God. John stated his theme more clearly than any of the other gospel writers. He wrote so that his readers might “believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,” so that they may have life in His name (John 20:31). To accomplish that goal, John presented a riveting and distinctive picture of Jesus Christ, one in complete unity with the portraits in the other three gospels, but one that also adds significantly to the Bible’s revelation of Jesus Christ, the God-man.

John used a variety of techniques to communicate to his readers the nature of Jesus. These include his citation of Jesus’s seven “I am” statements, in which Jesus spoke of Himself in terms such as “the Light of the world” (8:12), “the resurrection and the life” (11:25), and “the way, and the truth, and the life” (14:6). Much of John’s gospel (chapters 2–12) might be called the Book of Signs, as it recounts Jesus’s performing of seven different miracles—such as the turning water to wine at Cana and raising Lazarus from the dead at Bethany. These miracles illustrate His identity as the Son of God.

How do I apply this?
Jesus’s identity as the divine Son of God sets Him apart from any other man who ever lived. He carries with Him the transcendence that comes only with God Himself. Therefore, His work on our behalf makes our salvation sure. Because He is God, His sacrifice on the cross has eternal implications, unlike the limited effect of the animal sacrifices in the Old Testament. Jesus, the God-man, has atoned for our sins. We can place our confidence in Him because of His divine nature.

For readers of John’s gospel, the question is a simple, though significant, one: Do you believe that Jesus is Lord? If you believe, you will receive eternal life, claiming the truth that you will one day live in the presence of God in a place with no more pain, no more tears, and no more death.
