BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let us be mindful that if we cannot learn to give thanks in hard times, we will never learn to give thanks. What makes Thanksgiving difficult for you this year? Are you dealing with grief over the loss of a loved one? Challenges in your family or finances? Guilt over the past or fear of the future? In collating gratitude with these difficulties, Jim Denison, in Christian Headlines, suggests four logical options which we can view as a Thanksgiving spectrum.

1: We can choose gratitude as a generic attitude, a feeling we choose to feel. This is a common approach in our secularized culture. However, it is an illogical and impractical choice. Feeling grateful without being grateful to someone in particular is like feeling love without loving someone in particular.

2: We can be grateful to God for the good things in our lives. For example, the psalmist declared, “This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Ps. 118:24). This is obviously a step beyond secularism’s self-reliant denial of the supernatural and is where most Christians end up on the Thanksgiving spectrum.

3: We can “give thanks in all circumstances” (1Thess. 5:18).  This is a step beyond gratitude only for good things, a decision to find reasons for thanks in difficult times as well as good.

4: We can “give thanks for everything to God the Father” (Eph. 5:20). This is the most challenging step of all, a decision to find cause for thanks even for the hard times we experience. It is not easy but it is transformative. If we can learn an attitude of gratitude to God for every moment we experience, we will surely “enter his gates with thanksgiving” ((Ps. 100:4) and experience continually the transformative power of his Spirit in response to our worship. Does this mean that we have to pretend that hard times are not hard? Not at all. To “give thanks for everything to God the Father” means to thank him for the good that we experience and for the ways he will redeem the bad.

With all these facts in mind, it is obvious that God never intended for us to be thankful only at Thanksgiving time, but throughout the entire year.  So let up purpose in our hearts that we will always be thankful to God come what may. It is amazing what a big difference it will make in our lives. Amen!

THE YEAR OF ADVANCEMENT

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

According to World Net Daily, (WND), Franklin Graham, the chief of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) as well as the Samaritan’s Purse aid ministry, has recently won a fight brought against him by LGBT activists.  As a result, he will now be able to present the Gospel message in Sheffield, England, in May next year. This victory has come after a nearly two-year battle against forces who wanted to shut down his message entirely. According to a report in the BBC, Graham was accused of having “homophobic” views when he announced plans for a series of events in England, during which he was to appear in Sheffield Arena last June.

The announcement follows the resolution of a legal dispute over Franklyn Graham’s appearance, according to the Sheffield city council. After he originally was scheduled to visit, “community groups” involving the pro-LGBT agenda, campaigned against him and signed a letter of protest to council officials. The council, and the operator of its local arena, then backed out of their agreement, prompting the BGEA to open a legal dispute. But now an official for the city has said that, “The parties are content that the dispute has been resolved and are content with the confidential terms agreed.”Bottom of Form He continued, “As part of that settlement, BGEA are entitled to hold their event in the Sheffield Arena and this event has been scheduled for May, 2022.”

The BGEA’s arguments against the city’s cancellation of its agreement pointed out that BGEA filed claims against parties in Sheffield that it believed were responsible for cancelling its legally binding contracts. It explained that there was no evidence that any event involving Graham had ever caused a danger to public safety or incited public disorder. “There is no question that was done under pressure from those with opposing views,” BGEA said.

The Christian Institute said that the case was one of five separate legal actions pursued by the BGEA after Sheffield and other venues in Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham and Liverpool arbitrarily canceled the bookings to which they had agreed for Graham’s planned U.K. tour.

We celebrate this victory for the BGEA. We are in the last days, and the devil is launching an all-out offensive. But we thank God for those believers who will not sit idly by and allow him to have his way. Rather, they are prepared to resist him. That is exactly what Evangelist Graham has done. Let us follow his example and remember to pray for him and his association that God would continue to use them for His glory and honor.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2021

An article in the Christian Post, written by Gary Wilkerson, Voices Contributor, Why it’s Important to Pray for Your Pastor, reflects that while many Americans are hanging spooky decorations and picking out costumes in preparation of Halloween, October is also Clergy Appreciation Month. It’s a time to not only celebrate church leaders but also to remember the important role they play in our society and local communities, including the significance of their physical and mental health.

Pastors are exposed to the depths of human suffering, unlike any other profession. The paramedic is there following an accident, but the pastor walks alongside the family at the hospital. The funeral home director takes care of the death of a family member, but the pastor provides spiritual support. The doctor takes care of the cancer patient while the pastor prays for them. The teacher educates the student with a disability while the pastor helps support the family. It is the pastor who is expected to be present and supportive through all of life’s challenges and tragedies. They are sharing in all the suffering of their flock. The weight of this burden can be heavy.

Being a pastor is a public position. Criticism is ripe for any sermon, prayer, event and so forth. Pastors are constantly hearing if their sermon was good or not, if an event was worthwhile to attend or poorly managed. Criticism can have tremendous effects on a pastor’s self-esteem and self-worth. For pastors who are self-critical as well, this can add to the burden and uphill battle to maintain a positive outlook.

Gary Wilkerson further wrote that “in recent years, the topic that got the most response on my podcast was around pastors, depression and suicide. Listeners were dissatisfied with the idea that a pastor would be dealing with things like depression. Instead, listeners felt that pastors should be providing answers to life’s problems—not experiencing them. This thinking emerges when we put pastors on a pedestal. We must remember that pastors are human just like the rest of us. While they should be “a step ahead of us” in our spiritual journey in order to lead us along, we can’t demand more of them than that. Pastors experience hardship and emotions just like the rest of us.

Pastors must learn self-care. Like the old adage says, “Put your own oxygen mask on first before helping someone else,” it is vital that pastors are emotionally, mentally and spiritually healthy in order to do their job well. However, pastors are often put in a position that they must care for everyone else first. While admirable, over the long haul, this approach will only leave them burnt out and empty.

As Christians, we should commit to praying for our pastors and church leaders each day. I implore you to make this a regular practice during the month of October. Our pastors do better when they live healthy, spirit-filled lives. Let’s do all that we can to help and encourage them.

THE YEAR OF ADVANCEMENT

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2021

We give God praise for the fact that we can freely gather in His name. May His praise be glorious in our midst today.

California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom, recently signed into law a bill which is nothing less than a frontal assault on parental rights.  The bill also hurts the very children it claims to protect. AB 1184 is reported by California Family Council to prohibit insurance companies from revealing to the policyholder the ‘sensitive’ services of anyone on that policy, including minor children, even though the policy owner is financially responsible for the services.  These ‘sensitive’ services include abortions, sexual assault treatment, drug abuse and mental health treatment, cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, and sex-change operations.

In California now, minors can consent to all of these sensitive treatments, under certain conditions, after the age of 12, except for sex-change surgeries. They can also consent to abortions at any age. This is exactly what this bill entails.  Not only can your 13 year-old child make radical, life-altering decisions, such as having an abortion in California, without your knowledge or consent, but your child can use your family insurance policy to pay for that abortion, and when your insurance statement comes, there will be no explanation of services. In fact, your insurance provider will be prohibited from disclosing to you what your own child has done and what your policy has covered. This is now the law in California.

A minor child in California can now choose to get treated with cross-sex hormones or puberty blockers, drugs which can have disastrous lifelong consequences, without possibly being able to understand the implications of what he or she is doing, and that by law.  You as a parent cannot intervene or do anything about it. Your child doesn’t have to tell you. The doctors don’t have to tell you. And your insurers don’t have to tell you. It is important to note that the passage of this bill is being celebrated by the governor and his colleagues. And we need to be all on guard, because ‘as California goes, so goes the nation.”

One must ask the question, who gave the government such intrusive, potentially destructive powers? The only one who could have inspired the governor and his colleagues to do such a thing is the Devil himself. God has put children under the care of their parents, not under the care of the government. Our nation is in serious decline and only God can help us. Let us earnestly pray against this evil in California and for our nation as a whole. God still answers prayer!

THE YEAR OF ADVANCEMENT

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, September 26, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

A high school coach who was fired for praying at the 50-yard-line after football games is now asking the U.S. Supreme Court to get involved and protect not only his religious liberty but also the freedoms of thousands of other teachers in the region. Joe Kennedy, whose case has gained nationwide attention, was not retained as an assistant coach by Bremerton (Wash.) High School following the 2015 season after he prayed, multiple times, in violation of a district policy. Kennedy’s post-game prayers typically involved his kneeling silently at midfield.

Kennedy lost his case at the district court and at the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The US Supreme Court declined to hear his case in 2019, even though four of the justices expressed openness to hearing the case at a later date, after the lower courts better developed the record. Those four justices at the time said that the Ninth Circuit’s reasoning “is troubling and may justify review in the future.” The Ninth Circuit ruled that the prayers violated the U.S. Constitution’s Establishment Clause.

First Liberty Institute, which is representing Kennedy, hopes the high court is ready to hear the case this time. “No American should be forced to choose between their faith and the job they love,” said Kelly Shackelford, chief counsel at First Liberty. “The Ninth Circuit’s opinion threatens the rights of millions of Americans who simply want to be able to exercise their faith freely without fear of losing their job.  We hope the Supreme Court will right this wrong and restore Coach Kennedy to the football field where he belongs.”

The petition to the Supreme Court points out that the Ninth Circuit’s opinion “has far-reaching effects for the hundreds of thousands of teachers in the Ninth Circuit, because the Ninth Circuit’s decision converts practically everything public-school teachers do or say during school hours or after-hours functions into government speech that the school may prohibit, thereby ensuring that teachers in the Ninth Circuit really do shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech and expression at the schoolhouse gate. The petition further points out that it converts the Establishment Clause from a protection against state-imposed religion into a cover for suppressing private religious speech.

Let us remember to pray for the success of Joe Kennedy’s case in the Supreme Court. The Devil is unleashing everything he has in his arsenal against God’s people in these last days. But the Bible makes it abundantly clear, “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Rom. 8:37). Amen!

THE YEAR OF ADVANCEMENT

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, September 19, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

A recent survey throughout the United States of America, by Nicholas Zill of the Institute for Family Studies, found that a change is on the horizon with regards to the supposed demise of the nuclear family. The percentage of high school seniors who were raised by both biological parents throughout childhood saw a major increase during the last decade, according to the new study. The report found that 53.1 percent of high school seniors in 2019 were living with both biological parents, an increase from 51.3 percent in 2016 and 49.7 percent in 2012. Just as significant, the report said, the uptick involved multiple racial groups, including whites, blacks and Hispanics. This led Nicholas Zill to conclude that “the tide is turning.”

“It is too early to say for certain but growing numbers of actual and would-be parents seem to be heeding the conventional wisdom that a stable two-parent family helps children flourish educationally, socially, and economically,” Zill wrote. “They have come to accept that loving and being loved by one’s two parents, who are also committed to one another, has benefits for the children and adults involved and for the community in which they live.”

The percentage of black high school seniors living with both birth parents increased from 24.3 percent in 2012 to 29.6 percent in 2019. For Hispanics, it went from 49.7 percent to 49.8 percent, and for whites, from 55.8 percent to 59.1 percent. “The fact that seniors were still living with both birth parents at the culmination of their schooling means that the vast majority grew up with them since birth,” Zill wrote. “Some may have been born to unmarried parents who subsequently got married during the student’s childhood. Some may have experienced parental conflicts or temporary separations, but not the kind of conflict that resulted in permanent splits. Their parents were able to work things out and the marriages endured.” This was not the only encouraging data in the report. The study also found that the proportion of children under 18 living with two parents increased to 70.4 percent in 2020 after falling to 67 percent in 2005.

This most recent data is indeed pointing to a turning tide in relation to the nuclear family. God is always right! He is never wrong! Speaking in relation to the family, God says, “Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.” (Psalms 128:3). God intends for children to be raised within the context of a family with a father and a mother. That is why Zill was able to observe from the survey that “a growing number of actual and would-be parents seem to be heeding the conventional wisdom that a stable two-parent family helps children flourish educationally, socially, and economically.” Amen!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, September 12, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Just last month, in Uganda, the Muslim father of a 20-year-old convert to Christianity, killed him for refusing to recant his faith in Jesus Christ, sources said. Tabiruka Tefiiro, his son, had put his faith in Christ in 2019. At that time his father drove him from their home, and he went to Kampala, where he worked in a hotel. . His mother later spent several months trying to convince him to return home to reconcile with his father, which Tefiiro resisted until he eventually consented to return on Sunday, August 1.

His father was away from home until Saturday, August 14, when he called a family meeting to question his son, Tefiiro, about whether he had come back to Islam. The son replied, “I am mature enough to join any religion that I feel like because I am above 18 years old. I want to confirm that I am saved by the grace of God. I can’t renounce my Christian faith now or in the future.” The father became angry but remained silent as he left the house, the sister said. The following day the father returned with a knife and hoe and started hitting Tefiiro, his son, who managed to escape to a neighbor’s house.

Reports state that the father then pursued his son and forcefully entered the house where he sought refuge. He then removed him back to the homestead, where he tied him up and started beating him with the hoe until his son fell to the ground unconscious. He then hanged him up and proceeded to hang his son with a rope by the neck, sources said. The father, Kasimu Kawona, was subsequently charged, not with murder, but rather with a lesser charge of manslaughter, because he killed his son in anger for leaving Islam to become a Christian.

This assault was the latest of many instances of persecution of Christians in Uganda that Morning Star News has documented. And in light of the current trend, it surely won’t be the last. What happened to Tefiiro totally reflects what Jesus said, “For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.” Let us pray that the stand Tefiiro took will challenged others there in Uganda to take their stand for the Lord regardless of the cost. Amen!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 01, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Pastors in China were recently ordered to adjust their sermons to incorporate elements of President Xi Jinping’s speech delivered on July 1, the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party. The Three-Self Patriotic Movement, the government-controlled Protestant Church, held a national conference with the China Christian Council, which supervises education in the Three-Self churches. The conference’s theme was Learning and Implementing the Spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Speech which he made on July 1.

During the conference, pastors were told to integrate Jinping’s speech, which celebrated the CCP’s Marxist roots into their sermons and Bible study groups. Wu Wei, Chairman of the Chinese Christian Council, called on pastors to stress the fact that “the Chinese Communist Party has never changed its original intention to put the people first, establish an extensive patriotic united front, unite the citizens’ hearts, gather strength, and continue to explore and innovate.”

According to Bitter Winter Three-Self’s leader Xu Xiaohong addressed the conference by providing a model sermon featuring nine points taken from the July 1 speech. Among the points were instructions for pastors to highlight that the Communist party is the “people’s party,” encourage Christians to trust the CCP because it has “successfully” governed China over the last 70 years, and praise President Xi Jinping and the CCP’s ability to bring about the “great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.” Pastors were also told to tell Christians to endorse CCP leaders and the idea that “only socialism can save China” and to tell foreign leaders that “the era when the Chinese nation was slaughtered and bullied is gone forever.”

Under the nine points, pastors were also told that Christians must regularly repeat the slogans of: “Long live the great, glorious and correct Chinese Communist Party!” and “Long live the great, glorious and heroic Chinese people!”

Let us continue to pray for our brethren who are suffering such severe persecution in China. China is ranked 17 on Open Doors list of countries where it is most difficult for Christians to live. For churches to stay open, they must adopt the Chinese cultural identity as promoted by the CCP. But we are so grateful to God for His abundant grace, which is sufficient for us no matter what the circumstances are. Amen!

THE YEAR OF ADVANCEMENT

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, JULY 25, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

A piece of writing, roughly 3,100-years old, containing the name of a figure mentioned as one of the judges in the Old Testament, has been discovered. According to an article published in the Jersalem Journal of Archaeology, five letters that appear to represent the name “Jerubbaal” were found on a piece of pottery discovered in Southern Israel among other finds dating somewhere between the 11th and 12th centuries B.C. Researchers said the pot was unearthed at Khirbet er-Ra‘i, near Kiryat Gat in the Southern District of Israel. The chronological framework for this figure is the period of the Judges, and so a time frame for him in the twelfth or eleventh century BCE (the date of the inscription) is entirely plausible.”

However, the announcement of the find noted that although the pottery bears the name of a Biblical figure, archeologists cannot go any further. The name of the Judge, Gideon ben Yoash, was Jerubbaal, but archaeologists are not certain if he owned the vessel on which the inscription is written in ink. The name Jerubbaal is familiar from biblical tradition in the Book of Judges as an alternative name for the judge Gideon ben Yoash, Professor Yossef Garfinkel and archeologist Sa‘ar Ganor from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, who co-directed the excavations, said in a  joint statement. The statement noted that Inscriptions from the period of the Judges are extremely rare and almost unparalleled in Israeli archaeology. Only a handful of inscriptions found in the past bear a number of unrelated letters.

This is the first time that the name Jerubbaal has ever been found outside the Bible in an archaeological context, in a stratum dated to around 1,100 BCE, the period of the Judges. The archeologists noted that Gideon was a significant Biblical figure. He is first mentioned as combating idolatry by breaking the altar to Baal and cutting down the Asherah pole. In Biblical tradition, he is remembered as triumphing over the Midianites, who used to cross over the Jordan to plunder agricultural crops. According to the Bible in Judges Chapter 7, Gideon organized a small army of 300 soldiers and attacked the Midianites by night. Garfinkel said the settlement they uncovered appeared to have reached its apex at the time of the Judges. It is also important to note that the name Ishbaal, which is only mentioned in the Bible during the monarchy of King David, has been found in strata dated to that particular period also.

The fact that identical names mentioned in the Bible are also found in inscriptions recovered from archaeological excavations, shows that memories were preserved and passed down through the generations. But most important is the fact that these discoveries also serve to confirm the truth of the Bible. The Bible is not just another book, rather it is the Book of truth – the only book that ultimately matters. Let us value the Word of God for what it’s worth. Amen!

THE YEAR OF ADVANCEMENT

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, JULY 18, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

America’s largest evangelical prison ministry organization, Prison Fellowship, recently partnered with Moody Bible Institute to create new daily devotionals to be distributed to over 100,000 inmates across the United States. The two 120-day devotionals, which are based on Moody’s, Today In The Word, daily devotional, contain readings on all four Gospels and include Bible studies, discussion questions and a series of Christian testimonies from previously incarcerated persons who became Christians while in prison. While one devotional is crafted for incarcerated men, the other is geared toward incarcerated women.

This particular partnership has been described as one of the largest outreach efforts in Prison Fellowship’s 45-year history. Prison Fellowship chaplains began distributing the Bibles to inmates on July 1.  “We are thrilled to have partnered with Moody Bible Institute and we cannot wait to see so many lives changed through these devotionals,” Prison Fellowship Vice President of Field Programs Dan Kingery told The Christian Post. The devotionals are handheld books written by professors and staff members of Moody Bible Institute.  The books have been ordered by many prisons throughout the U.S. They will be distributed to inmates who choose to receive copies. The devotionals encourage incarcerated individuals to lead Bible-centered and goal-oriented lives.

Kingery understands that people in prison face the same kinds of spiritual struggles that people outside prison face. However, he explains that the spiritual struggles may be heightened for inmates due to a lack of access to friends and family and having no time alone. He added that while inmates are often in very crowded prisons, they can feel very lonely because they are not near their close friends or family. The mission of Prison Fellowship is to restore those impacted by crime and incarceration.

Jamie Janosz, managing editor of Today In The Word, who helped write the devotionals, said, “The bigger picture is to show others how the Word of God is applicable to their daily lives, and to show those in prisons how to read a scripture passage and reflect and pray while modeling what it looks like to live out a Gospel-centered life through the testimonies in the books. We wanted to make the devotionals understandable for the inmates so they could live out what they read.”

We give God praise and thanks for this combined effort between Prison Fellowship and Moody Bible Institute targeting prison inmates. The Bible commands us to “Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them…” (Heb. 13:3). Let us remember to pray for the success of this venture, that the kingdom of God would be greatly expanded as a result. Amen!
