BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, July 11, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

On Thursday July 1st, the US State Department announced that it will be adding a third gender to passports for Americans. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, made the announcement, saying that the Department of State is committed to promoting the freedom, dignity, and equality of all people – including LGBTQI+ persons.  He went on to say that  since assuming office, President Biden had taken several executive actions demonstrating his administration’s commitment to human rights and has directed agencies across the U.S. government to take concrete actions to promote and protect the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons around the world.  He further added how the Department would be taking additional steps toward ensuring the fair treatment of LGBTQI+ U.S. citizens, regardless of their gender or sex, by beginning the process of updating our procedures for the issuance of U.S. Passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA).

“Most immediately, said Tony Blinken, “we will be updating our procedures to allow applicants to self-select their gender as “M” or “F” and will no longer require medical certification if an applicant’s self-selected gender does not match the gender on their other citizenship or identity documents.  The Department has begun moving towards adding a gender marker for non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming persons applying for a passport or CRBA.  We are evaluating the best approach to achieve this goal.  The process of adding a gender marker for non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming persons to these documents is technologically complex and will take time for extensive systems updates.  The Department will also be working closely with its interagency partners to ensure as smooth a travel experience as possible for the passport holder.”

But almost immediately, Evangelist Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, responded to this decision, condemning it and expressing disappointment that our government would fall for this kind of absurdity. He said, “This administration seems to have declared war on common sense, and they want everyone to go along with a lie. This is another reminder of the desperate need for Christians to PRAY for our nation and all those in leadership. We need God’s mercy and help.”

Evangelist Graham is perfectly correct. The Word of God makes it abundantly clear that God created two genders only, male and female. But our leaders seem to think that they have now taken the place of God, so that they are adding a third gender. Our nation is in trouble with God! We need to heed Graham’s advice and begin to pray earnestly for our nation before it is too late. Amen!

THE YEAR OF ADVANCEMENT

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, July 4, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Shortly before schools closed for the summer holidays, school officials in Illinois were forced to reverse their decision to ban a second-grade girl from bringing her Bible to school. The girl, whose name is Gabrielle, likes to bring her Bible to school and would sometimes read it aloud during recess. Other children would often sit, listen and discuss what Gabrielle was reading with her. But a few weeks ago, despite there being no complaints from her fellow students or their parents, a teacher saw her reading with her friends and confiscated the Bible from her. The teacher told Gabrielle the following, “You can’t be doing that.” The school later followed up by contacting the little girl’s parents and told them that Gabrielle was not allowed to read her Bible during recess.

It was in response to this that the parents reached out to the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ).  The ACLJ is a conservative law firm focusing on the issues of religious freedom. From its founding in 1990, it has been at the forefront of defending the First Amendment rights of students to pray, evangelize, read their Bibles, and, generally speaking, engage in religious expression in public schools. Their Chief Counsel, Jay Sekulow, a devout Christian, argued and won two of the most consequential Supreme Court victories in this area. These victories make it clear that the First Amendment does indeed apply to students at every level of the school system.

The ACLJ then sent a letter to the school citing several cases throughout history where students’ religious beliefs were allowed unless the school believed that the speech or expression could “materially and substantially disrupt the work and discipline of the school.” The law firm contended that in Gabrielle’s case, “there wasn’t even a hint of disruption of the work and discipline of the school – not even a complaint – there was no reason to crack down on a second grader’s reading of her Bible on the playground or in the classroom during recess.” After reviewing the letter from the ACLJ, the school then thanked the ACLJ for educating them and removed all restrictions on Gabrielle’s reading. She is now free to continue reading her Bible on the school premises during recess as she was doing.

We thank God for legal firms like the ACLJ that is standing up for the right of students in our schools to pray, evangelize, read their Bibles, and engage in religious expression. This first amendment right was enshrined in the constitution when our forefathers founded this nation.

And as we celebrate its founding today, we give God thanks for this first amendment right. The ACLJ has made it abundantly clear that they will continue to aggressively defend the right of students to free religious exercise in our schools. May God’s blessing be upon them as they continue this fight! Amen!

THE YEAR OF ADVANCEMENT

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, June 27, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Officials in Boston have designated one of the flagpoles outside their city hall as a public forum, and they have approved hundreds of private flags to fly there ceremonially. However, when a local organization, Camp Constitution, requested permission to fly a Christian flag, the officials refused. They claimed that their rules didn’t allow Christian flags to be flown. Officials from Camp Constitution were joined by the legal team at Liberty Counsel in protesting the city’s agenda, and now that fight is being presented to the U.S. Supreme Court. Just last week, Liberty Counsel filed a petition to the court on behalf of Boston resident Hal Shurtleff and his organization, arguing that the city violated the First Amendment by censoring a private flag in a public forum merely because the application form referred to the flag as a Christian flag.

The filing contends that the first Circuit’s government speech finding cannot be correct under this court’s precedents because (1) the city’s flag raising application form designates the flag poles as a ‘public forum’ for the private speech of ‘all applicants;’ (2) the city never censored a flag from 284 applications over 12 years before (3) the city approved 39 flags in the year prior to Camp Constitution’s application; and (4) the raising of other country’s flags cannot be the city’s speech because it would be a crime under state law for the city to raise another country’s flag on city hall. According to Liberty Counsel, “Despite the clear evidence presented at trial, the First Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the city of Boston’s censorship of the Christian viewpoint on the public forum.

This fight dates back to 2017, when the Camp first made the request to fly the flag on Constitution Day, and was refused.  That happened despite the fact the city has allowed the Turkish flag, which includes the Islamic star and crescent, the Portuguese flag and its religious imagery, message flags including pride and transgender agendas, as well as the flags of Communist China, Cuba, Albania, Brazil, Ethiopia, Italy, Panama, Peru, Portugal and Mexico. Liberty Counsel’s chairman, Mat Staver, said, “We look forward to the U.S. Supreme Court acknowledging the city’s obvious and unconstitutional discrimination against Camp Constitution’s Christian viewpoint. Censoring religious viewpoints in a public forum where secular viewpoints are permitted is unconstitutional and this must stop.”

It is very obvious that the Devil is busy seeking to launch an all-out attack on all things Christian in our nation – even on the very Christian flag. He wants for there to be total silence about God and Christianity in this nation that was founded on Christian principles. We must, therefore, rise up and wage spiritual warfare for the salvation of our nation as we have never done before! May God help us so to do! Amen!

THE YEAR OF ADVANCEMENT

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 20, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

The most widely accepted story on the origin of Father’s Day comes from Spokane, Washington. Sonora Smart Dodd, who grew up without a mother, was looking for a way to publicly recognize, thank and honor her father who had raised six children single-handedly. She brought the idea to her pastor and church members who embraced the idea and held the first Father’s Day celebration on June 19, 1909. The day as it was established was well meaning, but it is impossible to improve on Scripture. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”(Ephesians 6:1-3). Because there is a link between honoring our parents and honoring God, we need to be aware of the unintended consequences of establishing this day to honor fathers. People tend to forget the history that led to the establishment of this day of honor and begin to act as if it is the only day that they should or need to honor their fathers.

It has been said that Father’s Day is just like Mother’s Day except you spend less on the gift! But putting all humor aside, it is very clear that society has sadly downplayed the importance of a father in the home. Too many children are being raised without their fathers in their lives. And too many fathers who are still in the same home with their children are not active enough in their families’ lives.  This is really a tragedy. A true father provides for the physical needs of his family. Besides the obvious food, clothing, and shelter, etc., children need time as well. The greatest physical thing a father can give to his children is himself. A true father provides for the spiritual direction of the family. Fathers need to take the spiritual lead and guide their families toward heaven.  A true father provides for the proper discipline of the family. There are many effective forms of discipline, and a true father knows that proper and timely discipline will yield the fruit of righteousness. He is, therefore, not hesitant to discipline. A true father provides sympathetic understanding to all the members of the family. Fathers need to express their love, communicate with, and show compassion to their children. This is something for which children yearn.

While we are thankful that our nation pauses on this day to recognize the blessing of fatherhood, let us remember that God expects us to honor fathers not just on Father’s Day, but every day of the year. We thank God for Christian fathers who take their God-given responsibility seriously; who heed the admonition in Ephesians 4:6, “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” May God’s blessing be upon all the fathers today. Amen!”

Fathers are wonderful people

Too little understood,
And we do not sing their praises
As often as we should…
But FATHERS are just wonderful,
In a million different ways,
And they merit loving compliments
And accolade of praise,
For the only reason Dad aspires
To fortune and success
Is to make the family proud of him
And to bring them HAPPINESS…
And like our Heavenly Father,
He’s a guardian and a guide,
Someone that we can count on
To be always on our side.
Happy Fathers Day

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 13, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Law professors and scholars are calling on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom to pressure the State Department to sanction Finland’s prosecutor general for prosecuting a Christian politician who shared her biblical beliefs on sexuality and marriage. In an open letter published by Real Clear Politics recently, professors from Ivy League institutions like Harvard University, Yale University and Princeton University spoke out in defense of Päivi Räsänen and Bishop Juhana Pohjola. They both face criminal charges related to Räsänen expressing her Christian views on marriage. Räsänen, a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, could face up to six years in prison after being charged with three counts of ethnic agitation related to her statements.

Räsänen is the mother of five children and is married to a pastor and Bible college principal. She publicly voiced her opinion on marriage in a booklet on sexual ethics, describing marriage as between one man and one woman. She also expressed her views on a radio show. But prosecutors are saying that her statements disparage and discriminate against LGBT individuals and foment intolerance and defamation. In their open letter, the professors argue that the prosecution of the politician for her remarks could compel Finland’s clergy and believers to choose between prison and abandoning teachings of their various faiths.

Dr. Räsänen stated that homosexual activity should be recognized by the church as sinful, based on the teachings of the Hebrew Bible and Christian scripture. The Prosecutor General has also charged the Bishop-Elect of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission Diocese of Finland, Rev. Dr. Juhana Pohjola, with one count of ethnic agitation for publishing Dr. Räsänen’s booklet.

The professors in their letter said that “The Prosecutor General’s pursuit of these charges against a prominent legislator and bishop sends an unmistakable message to Finns of every strata of society, that no one who holds to the traditional teachings of Judaism, Christianity and other religions    on questions of marriage and sexual morality will be safe from state harassment, should they, like Bishop Pohjola and Dr. Räsänen, express their moral and religious convictions.

It is a fact that we are living in very crucial times as Christians. Jesus said about us as His followers, “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved,” (Mk. 13:13). Dr. Räsänen said that she did not threaten, slander or insult anyone and that her comments were all “based on the Bible’s teachings on marriage and sexuality.” She has vowed to defend her right to “confess” her faith. “The more Christians keep silent on controversial themes, the narrower the space for freedom of speech gets,” she said. Let us remember to pray for Dr. Rasanen that God would strengthen and uphold her in this trying hour.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 6, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Israel has practically been in the headlines every day in recent weeks since the nation has been under attack. Hamas, an Iran-backed terrorist organization, fired thousands of rockets into Israel, striking population centers. If it were not for the Iron Dome defense system which stopped 90% of those rockets, the damage would have been far worse. But what is it about Israel, and specifically Jerusalem, that draws the focus and attention of the entire world? The answer is quite simple. Israel occupies center stage in God’s drama of the ages. Take a look at history, and you will see that it turns out badly for any nation that raises its hand against Israel or the Jewish people. Nations such as Egypt, Assyria, Babylon and Rome, have turned against Israel and paid a price.

Jerusalem became the capital of Israel under King David and was actually known as the City of David. It was in Jerusalem that the first and second temples were built. Also, it was in Jerusalem at Mount Moriah, which is the area we know today as the Temple Mount, that Abraham went to offer his son Isaac to God. After the modern state of Israel was declared in 1948, a war of independence left Jerusalem divided, with Jordan maintaining control over the Old City, including the Temple Mount and most of the historic sites.

That is why the Bible tells us to pay attention to Jerusalem. Jesus said, “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near” (Luke 21:20). Speaking through the prophet Zechariah, God said, “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples” (Zech. 12:2–3).

Today we have leaders like the president of Iran who frequently speak of wiping Israel off the map. You might dismiss this as ridiculous, but they are currently developing nuclear weapons in Iran. Therefore, Israel is in a very difficult situation, and they take these threats seriously. The Bible tells us that the final conflict of humanity will be fought over Jerusalem. It speaks of a large force, known as Magog, from the extreme north of Israel attacking her. Russia sits to the extreme north of Israel. So is Russia Magog? And it is very clear in pointing out that this will happen in the last days.  But while no one can say with absolute certainty that Magog is Russia, this much we know: a force known as Magog from the north of Israel will attack her. And when they attack, God will step in and save Israel.

In the meantime, we need to be alert. We need to be awakened to the fact that Jesus Christ is returning to the earth very soon. In addition, we need to be praying for the peace of Jerusalem more than ever before, as the Word of God instructs us to do. Always remember this, the most important person in our lives was a Jew, the most important book in our lives was written by Jews, and the most important organization in our lives – the church — began with Jews. Amen!

THE YEAR OF ADVANCEMENT

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, MAY 30, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

A young girl who wanted to wear her faith on her mask never expected it to be a problem at school. But that is just what happened.  School officials told Lydia Booth that she could not wear her mask because of a school policy that forbad the wearing of masks on the school premises that carried political or religious messages. However, Lydia’s mother, Jennifer, checked the handbook and dress code and didn’t find any such restriction. The Booth family, therefore, reached out to Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) for help. As a result they eventually filed a lawsuit against the school district.

Lydia Booth told the ADF that she simply liked wearing the mask to show her faith in Jesus. She also said, “It makes me feel like I’m protected by Jesus.” She says she believed others would “think it’s a great mask, and that Jesus is a great God, and a great Savior.” She also discovered that masks with sports logos and other messages like “Black Lives Matter” were allowed.

The ADF reminded the school system that they cannot pick and choose which messages students are allowed to express and which they are not allowed to express. Furthermore the ADF made it abundantly clear to the school that they surely cannot single out religious speech for worse treatment than other types of speech.

However, in spite of this, God is using Lydia’s struggle to touch the lives of other children, prompting reactions from her schoolmates. One of Lydia’s classmates saw her mask and wanted one just like it. Another friend’s older sister, after hearing about the case, decided to read the entire Bible. And according to ADF reports, two other sisters sent Lydia “heartwarming and encouraging notes.” One read as follows, “Lydia, I am praying for you. I am so glad that God sent His Son to die for us. I know that God is using you to tell others about Jesus. I know how you feel. …I know God sees our troubles and I know God will answer your prayers soon. God bless you.”

We thank God for the powerful witness that this young girl, Lydia, has become for Jesus in her school. Let us pray that the youth of our nation would rise up from every quarter and take their stand for the Lord in our schools and everywhere else. The Word of God says, “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth…” (Eccl. 12:1). Amen!

On Tuesday, May 11, American Bible Society (ABS) released the first two chapters of its 11th annual State of the Bible report, documenting cultural trends in the realm of spirituality and Scripture engagement in the United States. According to the report, over an estimated 10 million more Americans turned to the Bible in 2020 than in years past, as one in four adults reported reading the Bible more frequently during the pandemic compared to last year.  The data also suggests that over 181 million Americans opened a Bible in the past year compared to 169 million adults who used a Bible at least occasionally in the previous year. The findings for the report are based on a survey conducted in January 2021.

The study also found that roughly 16% of American adults read the Bible most days during the week, up from 12% in its 2020 report. Thirty-four percent said they read the Bible once a week or more, while 50% said they read the Bible less than twice per year.  The report further states that 63% of respondents reported their Bible usage was the same as the previous year. Although 9% said their Bible engagement decreased in the last year, 24% reported more frequent Bible reading during that time. The nine chapters from the report will be released throughout the year.

In an interview with The Christian Post, John Farquhar Plake, the director of ministry intelligence for the American Bible Society, said he believes Americans turned to God’s Word during the pandemic in search of meaning and comfort. “I think the data tells us that when people are at change points in their life, [and] they’re enduring stresses like we all have during the COVID-19 pandemic, we look for meaning and we look for comfort,” he said.”

The report also showed a decrease of people classified in the “Bible Disengaged” category as well as a “significant” increase of 95 million American adults in the “Movable Middle” category of those who are exploring Scripture, sometimes for the first time. ABS will release the following seven chapters of the State of the Bible between June and December this year.

We thank God for the positive reflection in the ABS 2021 State of the Bible report. As individuals ask questions regarding how to cope in these times, we are glad that the Word of God has the answer. This, no doubt, is the reason why individuals are turning to the Scriptures for their answers. Let us pray that as people continue to consult the Bible, God would cause His voice to be heard in their hearts and they would respond to Him positively. Amen!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, MAY 16, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, 100,000 Bibles were given to prisoners by the nation’s leading Christian prison ministry amid heightened demand for God’s Word. In a recent interview with The Christian Post, James Ackerman, the CEO of Prison Fellowship, noted that there was a “sense of hopelessness” in prisons throughout the pandemic. Ackerman shared that there was an intense level of demand for the Gospel inside prisons, for the first time in Prison Fellowship’s 45-year history. “God put on people’s hearts and encouraged chaplains to promote the Word of God,” he noted. “And [the fact] that hope of the Gospel found itself in such high demand is so encouraging to me.”

In response, Prison Fellowship has managed to distribute 100,000 copies of The Life Recovery Bible, Tyndale’s bestselling recovery Bible, in nine months. The Life Recovery Bible, which is under the New Living Translation, features unique devotional content based on the 12-step recovery model. According to Tyndale’s website, “This Bible for addiction points to God himself as the primary source of recovery with essential tools and features that help free people from the grip of addiction.” Ackerman added that the Bible provides prisoners with the opportunity to start a new life with Jesus Christ. He said that the aim is for people who have struggled with addiction and other unproductive activities in their lives, to realize that they can be healed from that addiction, and that Jesus wants to deliver them.

While many correctional facilities were concerned that the pandemic would agitate prisoners, the Prison Fellowship president pointed out that the opposite effect took place through these Bibles. Ackerman explained that The Life Recovery Bible has helped inmates stay calm, strengthening the faith of those who were already believers and encouraging non-believers to read and study the Word of God. He further stated how God provided them with all they needed to meet the demand to supply those 100,000 Bibles. Over 3 million copies of The Life Recovery Bible have been printed. They are available in English and Spanish in large print. Since partnering with Tyndale in 2018, Prison Fellowship has distributed over 162,000 Bibles to men and women in prison.

We praise God for this remarkable work that is being done by the Prison Fellowship in the interest of the inmates. The Bible says that God “wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” (1Tim. 2:4). This includes those who are imprisoned. Because only God’s truth can set them free from the things that have caused them to be imprisoned. So let us remember to pray for the Prison Fellowship and other prison ministries along with prisoners everywhere. Amen!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, MAY 09, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

According to the Christian Post, One of the largest cities in Texas has now become the most populous city in the country thus far to outlaw abortion within the city’s limits and become a “sanctuary city for the unborn.” In a referendum on Saturday, May 1, a supermajority of voters in the city of Lubbock, Texas, voted to approve an ordinance that makes it unlawful for any person to procure or perform an abortion of any type and at any stage of pregnancy in that City. More than 62% of voters in the city of more than 250, 000 residents voted to approve the referendum. Mark Lee Dickson, an East Texas pastor, who is the founder of a movement called, Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn, cheered Saturday’s landslide victory for the pro-life movement.

Pastor Dickson said that Planned Parenthood came to Lubbock and started performing abortions on April 15. He also pointed out how they poured lots of money into the election. They pushed a campaign to prevent the ordinance from being passed. But they were still unsuccessful. The people of Lubbock have spoken. The act permits family members of someone who gets an abortion to sue the provider and anyone who assists in the abortion, including, for example, driving someone to the clinic to have the procedure done. However, under the measure, an act does not qualify as an abortion if it is carried out to save the life of the mother, remove a fetus whose death was the result of a miscarriage or remove an ectopic pregnancy. Conservative state lawmakers and other anti-abortion activists congratulated Lubbock voters for their decision. “Today is a victory for life and proof that the silent majority will still stand up for its Christian conservative values,” Republican state Rep. Dustin Burrows said in a statement.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas, (ACLU), which has sued seven other towns in Texas that passed similar measures, hinted at a lawsuit in a statement. But Pastor Dickson pointed out that In May 2020, the ACLU sued seven cities that passed sanctuary for the unborn ordinances. However, after three months, the ACLU withdrew their lawsuits and abortion remains outlawed in every city that was sued.

We commend the city of Lubbock for the stand which they are taking against abortion. The Bible makes it abundantly clear, “Thou shalt not kill.” (Ex. 20:13). God told Jeremiah “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jer. 1:5). Every abortion is the murder of a human life and the judgment of God will surely follow. May God’s blessing be on the city of Lubbock and upon all you mothers who followed through and give birth to your children. Amen! Happy Mother’s Day

THE YEAR OF ADVANCEMENT

A MOTHER INDEED
Second Kings Chapter number four
A mother cried to the prophet for two sons she bore
Her husband’s death brought the creditor’s hand
To take her children upon demand.

The man was right according to law
But the woman was struck at what she saw
“All debts must be paid for your sons to be free
Remember your husband was indebted to me”.

The Prophet asked a question ‘Lady what have you?’
“A little oil in a bottle,” and that was true
He sent her to neighbors some vessels to borrow
Then to her house his instructions to follow.

So she did as he said her two sons beside her
Pouring out the oil in each empty container
She filled up the last she had of them all
There was now not a vessel on which to call.

She came to the prophet surprised at her blessing
He said “Sell the oil and pay those you’re owing
You and your sons can live on the rest
You’re a mother indeed; you’ve done your best”.
(Apostle Dr. B. Edghill)
