BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, MAY 02, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

On Thursday April 22, Indiana Governor, Eric Holcomb, signed SB 263 into law. This bill ensures that churches and other religious organizations are allowed to remain open during a state of emergency, on the same terms as other businesses and services. It labels churches and religious organizations as “essential services”. As a result, the state will now be restricted regarding the limits it can impose on churches during an emergency. Governor Holcomb signed the bill into law less than one month after it was passed. The bill was passed in the state Senate, 36 -10, and the state House, 74-20. The sponsors of the bill said it is needed to protect churches during any future emergencies similar or even worse than the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to local and state governments shuttering churches.

Part of the text of the bill reads as follows, “Religious organizations provide essential services that are necessary for the health and welfare of the public during a disaster emergency.” The bill goes on to point out that the state and its “political subdivision” may not impose restrictions on churches and religious organizations that are “more restrictive than the restrictions imposed on other businesses and organizations that provide essential services to the public.” The new law specifically allows the state to order a “religious organization to comply with a generally applicable health, safety, or occupancy requirement,” but it must be “neutral towards religious organizations and equally applicable to any organization or business that provides essential services.”

It is also important to note that this new Indiana law includes a section allowing individuals to sue the state if they believe their religious liberty rights have been violated.  The Alliance Defending Freedom, a legal organization which specializes in religious liberty cases, has applauded the new law. Greg Chafuen, ADF legal counsel said, “Houses of worship and religious organizations provide soul-sustaining operations that are essential to our society and protected by the First Amendment. While public officials have the authority and responsibility to protect public health and safety, the Supreme Court has made clear that the First Amendment ‘cannot be put away and forgotten’ even in a pandemic. This means that the government can’t treat churches worse than shopping centers, restaurants, or gyms without violating the Constitution. We commend Gov. Holcomb and the Indiana Legislature for making it clear that officials cannot use a public crisis to discriminate against religious operations.”

Since this pandemic, many churches throughout our nation have suffered immensely because of the unreasonable restrictions which governors and mayors have imposed upon them. We thank God for the stand which Indiana is taking in the interest of the church. May God bless that state abundantly and may other states learn from them. Amen!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, April 25, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

A wedding photographer in New York is fighting the state’s “non-discrimination” law. She alleges that it violates her right to express her religious freedom and beliefs. According to the Christian Post, in a lawsuit profiled in the Washington Free Beacon, Emilee Carpenter is taking Governor Andrew Cuomo and his administration to court because they are threatening her with fines and jail time for her belief that marriage is the union of a man and a woman.  The complaint alleges that the state is requiring Carpenter to violate her beliefs about traditional marriage, by forcing her to publicize photos of same-sex weddings on her website. The laws require her to create photograph collections on her website celebrating same-sex weddings because she celebrates opposite-sex weddings. Violating the laws could result in tens of thousands of dollars in fines, the state taking away her business license, or even jail time.

Carpenter stated in the report, “My faith has been really integral to me as a person, but also to my business and the way I operate it and the artwork I create. My faith is really the lens through which I view my art.” The state is also prohibiting Carpenter from making any statement explaining that her business activities are restricted by her religious beliefs. The case alleges that the state’s anti-discrimination laws are violating Carpenter’s First Amendment rights.

The lawsuit points out that the laws do not simply dictate what Carpenter does; they dictate what she says. Carpenter is already willing to work with clients no matter who they are, her attorney says.  But not satisfied with equal treatment, New York officials demand ideological purity. They want Carpenter to violate her conscience by professing the state’s approved view about marriage.

Jonathan Scruggs, Carpenter’s attorney highlighted the fact that, ever since American courts handed “rights” to LGBT activists, this issue has been conflicting with First Amendment’s protections for religious rights. But other recent court decisions have recognized religious rights. Among them are the Supreme Court’s ruling in the case of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado, a decision involving a video company in Minnesota and a ruling in Arizona’s courts regarding a calligraphy company.

Emilee Carpenter is to be admired for the bold stand which she is taking in the interest of God’s kingdom. The Bible says, “…He who made them at the beginning made them male and female. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife.” (Mt. 19:4-5). Homosexuality has no place in God’s plan. Let us pray for Emilee Carpenter that God would be her defence.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, April 18, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Focus on the Family has launched its “Prevention with Purpose” campaign to help communities protect children by preventing abuse. Sharen Ford, director of foster care and adoption for Focus on the Family, emphasized the importance of reporting any sign of suspected abuse and neglect, especially as some children are returning to school for the first time since the pandemic lockdowns began. “Our Prevention with Purpose campaign is about helping everyone to know that their eyes and ears matter in the life of a child,” Ford told CP in an interview recently. “If you see something that is suspicious, please call and report it. If you hear something that concerns you, a conversation that young children are having or older children, and it sounds suspicious, please pick up the phone and report it.” The key, she stressed is prevention, which is why it’s the theme of this year’s campaign.

Two million children received abuse prevention services in 2019, according to the Department of Health and Human Services Children’s Bureau Child Maltreatment Report, which also found that 1,840 children died from abuse or neglect that same year. Some of the teachers haven’t seen the children except on a Zoom classroom meeting, but now the children are being gradually reintegrated to the classroom. Teachers, staff and everyone else must keep a keen eye on our children, observing any signs of abuse or neglect. Sharen Forde is convinced that risk factors for child abuse have all become more prevalent across the United States after businesses were shuttered last March and families lost their sources of income and were ordered to quarantine at home for months.

“It is not your responsibility to do the investigation,” said Forde, “but it’s your opportunity to step into the life of a child and maybe save them from abuse that’s going on, or also to give services to a family who might be struggling and need resources or help so that abuse can be stopped.” Churches can also have an active role in prevention, she said, by serving their communities. She is convinced that, “If every church did a little bit, every family in the community would know that there is somewhere safe that I can go and connect with. When we meet temporal needs in the community, we can eventually meet their spiritual needs.

If we could prevent more abuse of children, we would have fewer children going into the foster care system and being impacted by trauma. “The family is the fabric and the bedrock of the society.  If the church can be there to serve the family at their initial point of need, hopefully, we can prevent many children from plunging into chaos.  Let us do our part in Jesus’s name. He said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven” (Mt. 19:14).

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, April 11, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

According to the Christian Post, a new report from the Napa Legal Institute has revealed the full extent of big-tech censorship of Christians. It details the growing attitude of hostility towards faith-based views and organizations by large tech companies, and urges “decisive” actions by faith leaders to confront this new culture. The report alleges that since the beginning of the year, religious organizations and individuals have been censored on social media at a rate of roughly once a week. While many of these actions have gone relatively unnoticed, some have risen to the status of national news. Among them was Amazon’s removal of Ryan T. Anderson’s book When Harry Became Sally.  This book challenged progressive orthodoxy on transgender issues. Amazon deleted the book from its catalogue and refused to reverse the decision, despite widespread backlash by conservatives and Christians. They later doubled down on the ban, saying that they have “chosen not to sell books that frame LGBTQ+ identity as a mental illness.”

In practice, that standard gives Amazon a blanket justification to censor any content that presents the traditional Christian view of gender and sex. Whether or not they follow through on their new policy, the existence of such a policy puts any faith-based publisher or author in a position of suspicion, especially if they write against LGBT issues. This new policy is particularly concerning for Christians given Amazon’s control of the publishing market. The report also shows that the censorship culture extends far beyond Amazon. In February, Twitter suspended the account of Catholic bishop, Kevin Doran, after he attacked the practice of assisted suicide. His account was eventually restored after a month. But others have suffered permanent consequences. LifeSiteNews, a pro-life news outlet, had their You Tube account permanently banned, removing their catalogue of over 2000 videos. Other Christian groups have also been targeted.

Many of the cases tracked by the Napa Legal Institute resulted in permanent suspensions, but in some cases the results were reversed. Though censorship may be increasing, many Christians are actively fighting back and, in some cases, winning. The Napa Legal Institute states that “Big Tech’s unpredictable de-platforming of faith-based organizations and their leaders has become so frequent that faith-based organizations can no longer rely on continuous service from these companies, particularly social media providers.

As Christians, we should not be alarmed at the ongoing opposition to Christian views and the Christian message. Jesus said, “If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” (Jn. 15:19). We must, therefore, pray for God to give His people the wisdom and guidance to surmount these barriers and get His message out. Amen!

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

According to recent reports from the U.S.-based advocacy organization, International Christian Concern, communist authorities in China have removed all the belongings of a house church in China’s Chongqing municipality. Just days earlier during the Sunday worship service the authorities raided the same house church, sent the members home and sealed the church. More than 30 officials, including local police, came with trucks and took away all the belongings, including chairs and books, at Mount Olive Church last Wednesday. Pastor Zhu Dong and several leaders were said to have been brought to the police station.

China Aid suspects that the recent crackdown against house churches, which targets reformed churches in particular, could be a move in celebration of the upcoming 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party. The Chinese government also continued its campaign against Christianity during the country’s coronavirus outbreak by destroying crosses and demolishing a church while people were on lockdown. On February 28, authorities raided the Chongqing Living Fountain Church during one of its Sunday services and arrested two Christians, one of whom preached that day. According to China Aid, officers confiscated a computer belonging to the church and told those attending the service not to come on the church grounds again because the church is not registered and that there is the potential risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus.

Open Doors USA, which monitors persecution in over 60 countries, estimates that there are about 97 million Christians in China, a large percentage of whom worship in what China considers to be “illegal” and unregistered underground house churches. China is ranked as the 17th worst country in the world when it comes to the persecution of Christians, according to Open Doors USA’s 2021 World Watch List. Earlier this year, the U.S. State Department declared the Chinese government’s treatment and mass detainment of Uighur and other ethnic groups in Western China to be genocide. Researchers found that China continued to have “the highest score on the Government Restrictions Index out of all 198 countries and territories in the study.”

At this time of the year when we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, our brethren in China can be reminded that our Lord and Savior is not dead but alive and alive forever. He is creator, and at His name every knee will bow. By so doing, they can console themselves in the fact that the devil is a defeated foe. Jesus said, “…I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Mt. 16:18). Let us continue to pray for our brethren in China that they may be reminded of this truth at this time and continue to take their stand for the Lord. Amen!

HAPPY RESURECTION DAY!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 21, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Last Monday, Christian Headlines carried a report about a new statewide ethnic studies curriculum under consideration by the California Department of Education. This curriculum encourages teachers to lead their students in chants to Aztec gods in what one critic of the curriculum says is a clear refutation of the “Christian God.” Christopher Rufo, the director of the Discovery Institute’s Center on Wealth & Poverty, criticized the proposed curriculum in a column saying that it “advocates for the ‘decolonization’ of American society” and even “elevates Aztec religious symbolism.” The curriculum, he said, promotes “left-wing political ideology.”

Mr. Rufo pointed out that the curriculum recommends that teachers lead their students in a series of indigenous songs, chants, and affirmations, which appeal directly to the Aztec gods. The Aztecs ruled a large empire in Mexico in the 15th and 16th centuries. “Students first clap and chant to the god Tezkatlipoka, whom the Aztecs traditionally worshipped with human sacrifices and cannibalism as they asked him for the power to be warriors for social justice, according to Rufo. Following this, the students chant to three other Aztec gods, including, Huitzilopochtli, seeking healing epistemologies and “a revolutionary spirit.” Huitzilopochtli, in particular, is the Aztec deity of war and inspired hundreds of thousands of human sacrifices during Aztec rule. Finally, the chant comes to a climax with a request for ‘liberation, transformation, and decolonization. According to Rufo, the clear implication of the chanting is for the “displacement of the Christian God.”

Rufo is convinced that under the guise of ‘equity’ and ‘empowerment,’ activists within the public education system have developed this radical new curriculum in order to transform California schools into factories for left-wing political activism.” He said, “They have recast the United States as an oppressor nation that must be deconstructed and subverted through politics. He further stated that the Aztec portion of the curriculum is “almost certainly” unconstitutional, and that public schools are prohibited from leading state-sanctioned Christian prayers; they would presumably be similarly prohibited from leading state-sanctioned chants to the Aztec god of human sacrifice.”

What is taking place in California should be of grave concern to parents of school-aged children. It should also be of concern to the rest of us in the nation, because it is said, “As California goes, so goes the rest of the nation.” Another thing for consideration is this, when we shut out God, we shut in the devil. Our nation locked God out of the schools. But in doing so we locked the devil in the schools. We need to pray for the children in California and in our nation as a whole. The Bible says, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Pr. 22:6).

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 14, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

For some believers in restricted nations and hostile areas, following Christ means beatings, torture and even death. For others, the decision to follow Christ means losing jobs, income, livelihood and even relatives. That was the case recently for a Ugandan woman named Faridah, according to Voice of the Martyrs.  She was a restaurant owner in Uganda for some time. But six months after she became a Christian, her restaurant was gutted by fire. At the first, she did not suspect anything. But after her rented house also caught fire, and neighbors reported smelling gasoline it then became clear to her that her business was deliberately targeted.

Faridah a mother of six children became a Christian after her husband decided to abandon her and their children. That was when she decided to submit herself to the Lord. Following her decision for Christ, her relatives cursed her and told her that she would never have peace as long as she followed Jesus. Faridah suspects that they were the ones who started the fires. Compounding her difficulties, Faridah’s landlord demanded that she reimburse him for the loss of the rented house. “He said his house was burned because I rejected my family’s religion and changed to Christianity,” Faridah said. “He wants me to pay for damages and even repair everything that was burned.”

After the fire, a local pastor connected Faridah with a Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) worker in Uganda. The worker learned that although she and her children had lost everything, including clothes and other personal items, they were still rejoicing and giving thanks to Almighty God. VOM helped the family resettle in a new home. “This support came in a way that I never expected,” Faridah said. “We were all incredibly happy.” Faridah is asking for continued prayer for her family’s protection, as her relatives continue to threaten her life. In addition, she is requesting prayer for her relatives that they will come to a saving faith in Christ.

Let us keep Faridah’s prayer requests before the Lord. The Bible says, “If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” (Jn. 15:19). May the Lord keep her faithful to the end, so that she too may hear His welcome call. Amen!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

“Cancel culture” has now struck the The Coral Ridge Ministries television program, The Coral Ridge Hour – Truths that Transform, which began in 1978. The program was founded by the late influential Presbyterian minister, Dr. D. James Kennedy in 1978.  The organization said that it has been deplatformed by Lifetime TV, to which it paid enormous fees over the years, because of its Christian perspective on issues such as abortion. Lifetime TV recently demanded that the ministry remove all “controversial” content or it could not continue to purchase time for its program “Truths That Transform.”

Frank Wright, CEO of the group, said Lifetime imposed an unacceptable demand on the ministry. They recently required the ministry to remove all programming that addressed abortion and other related matters. Lifetime’s sudden decision to impose severe content restrictions came after nearly three years during which the cable channel aired, without comment, ‘Truths That Transform’ programs addressing abortion and other matters of concern to Christian social conservatives. But it wasn’t a surprise, the ministry’s representative said, since a growing number of private media firms, among whom are Twitter, Facebook, Google, Apple and others” now are “deplatforming and silencing outspoken Christian and conservative voices.

“We will not cave to the cancel culture,” said Frank Wright. “D. James Kennedy Ministries is committed to proclaiming biblical truth and defending freedom in America. We simply cannot water down our message to please Lifetime and be faithful to our mission.” The ministry is now is in the process of finding a new broadcaster. But the process is proving to be expensive and burdensome given the recent decision by some networks to eliminate all religious programming. “This is not just about us,” Frank Wright said. “We are at a critical turning point in our culture. The cancel culture is in high gear and coming after anyone who speaks with courage and candor to the great moral and cultural issues of our day. With God’s help, we will not bow.”

This is a wakeup call to the church of Jesus Christ in our nation. The devil wants to put us to silence because he knows that he has but a short time left. He does not want God’s truth to reach those who are in darkness. Let us join Frank Wright and our brethren at Coal Ridge Ministries and say, “We will not bow!” Jesus said, “But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven.”(Matt. 10:33).

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

The Western Wall in Jerusalem, is a place where people go from miles around to pray for the Jewish people. It has now added 30,000 Coronavirus patients in request for prayer. Many of the names come from online petitions given to The Western Wall Heritage Foundation which runs the wall. The prayer requests are printed daily and placed before the wall. Hundreds of new requests are added every day. But in spite of this, the Western Wall Heritage Foundation is still requesting that people send in more prayer requests. In a statement obtained by CBN news, The Western Wall Heritage Foundation said, “Send us the names of your loved ones and we will make sure to pray for their health…” The Western Wall is situated in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is the most hallowed sight – a place for constant prayer, meditation and inspiration, and It can be a very emotional experience for Jews and Christians. The history that it represents is spine chilling, as reflected in the heartfelt prayers of the Jews who visit there and sometimes weep over the destruction of the Temple, which was the reason for the Gentiles naming it “The Wailing Wall”.

It is part of the western supporting wall of the Temple Mount and is the only remains of the second Temple. The first Temple was built by King Solomon and stood for 410 years until the Babylonians destroyed it. Seventy years later, the second Temple was built under the guidance of Ezra.  It stood for 420 years until Titus and his Roman legions razed it to the ground in 70 AD.  They left the wall up because they thought it held no major significance, since it was an outer wall and not actually a wall that was part of the temple itself.

The wall was later destroyed in an earthquake in the 1500s. However, the Ottoman emperor took the effort to repair it for the sole purpose of it becoming a prayer site for Jewish people. The Emperor’s decree was respected for 400 years or more following his rule. The wall officially became part of Israel again after the Six- Day War in 1967, and has remained in Jerusalem ever since as a place of prayer. No one could have imagined the significant role this wall would eventually play in the lives of so many people.

We praise God for the many people who have come to the realization in this coronavirus environment that prayer works. This is the reason for the 30,000 prayer requests for healing from coronavirus flooding the Western Wall Heritage Foundation. The Word of God makes it abundantly clear, “…And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.” Let us join the prayer warriors at the Western Wall and believe God for the healing of all those who are requesting prayer for healing from the coronavirus.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Despite the coronavirus outbreak, according to Lifeway Christian Resources, Bible sales have increased across the globe. Lifeway Christian Resources, a leading provider of Christian books and educational materials, noted in a new report that Bible sales have increased significantly. This became evident from between April to June last year. Lifeway CEO Ben Mandrell believes that the increase in Bible sales can be attributed to people’s desire to seek hope and healing during times of great difficulty, such as the pandemic.

Mandrel said, “We believe this is no accident, as people often go to the Bible as a source of hope in times of crisis and uncertainty.” He explained that people draw hope from scripture because in it they see a God who is with us during our suffering. The Bible, as God’s words to us, is a reminder that He doesn’t leave us to walk through difficult times alone.” Since its founding in 1891, Lifeway has been serving Christians and new believers with a variety of resources including Bibles, books, Scripture reference tools, Bible studies, children’s products, Christian music and movies, gifts, and church supplies.

In January 2019, the company had announced that it would close down several retail locations due to a decline in sales and would shift more towards online sales. But after the pandemic began last year LifeWay Christian Resources saw an increase in sales of Bibles amounting to 62 percent in one week as opposed to the previous year. Alabaster Co., a Bible publisher known for its visually artistic individual books of the Bible, also saw an increase in Bible sales of up to 143 percent. Another Christian publisher, Tyndale House Publishers, reported a considerable increase in Bible sales. Jim Jewell, an executive for Tyndale, noted that purchases from the company’s Life Application Study Bibles increased up to 44 percent and 60 percent for Immerse Bibles.

We give God praise and thanks for this significant increase in Bible sales over the past year.  What the devil meant for evil by means of the pandemic, God is using for a good purpose.” The Bible holds the answer to humanity’s past, present and future. It is the wellspring of wisdom and divine instruction. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,” (2Tim. 3:16). Let us pray that many people will be born again, as they engage the Scriptures during this time.
