BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, January 31, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Each January, Open Doors, an organization committed to serving persecuted Christians worldwide, releases their World Watch List. This list documents the 50 countries where it is most dangerous to be a Christian. It highlights global trends in religious persecution and provides unique insights into the global persecuted church. In many ways, Open Doors 2021 report resembles those of previous years. North Korea is still at the top of the list, followed by Afghanistan. As in previous years, the list is dominated by either communist governments or overwhelmingly Islamic countries. Christian persecution in these countries may take the form of discrimination, restrictions on religious practice, imprisonment, violence, or killings. The persecution may come at the hands of the state or at the hands of private actors with the state looking the other way.

However, the 2021 World Watch List does differ from those in previous years in a very important way. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the ugliness of Christian persecution in a new way. For example, in India, COVID-19 food relief has been used by some radical Hindu government officials to pressure Indian Christians to renounce their faith. In some regions of India, Christians are last in line to receive aid, including food. As a result, some Christians there are being forced to travel long distances in order to receive help. Some are forced to hide their Christian identity. Similar reports are emerging from other countries around the world, including Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam, Malaysia, Yemen, and Sudan.

In some parts of Pakistan, the combination of COVID-19 and anti-Christian discrimination has wiped out Christian-owned businesses. Christians already struggling to make ends meet have found their Muslim neighbors using the corona virus as a pretext to shut them down altogether. In the Kaduna State of Nigeria, Christians who were already facing genocidal violence at the hands of Islamists and Fulani herdsmen are, according to Open Doors, receiving only one-sixth of the rations allocated to Muslim families. In addition to the health and economic pressures, authoritarian governments around the world have used COVID-19 to consolidate power and further restrict religious activities they deem to be a threat to their authority.

Open Doors is right in warning us about how COVID opportunism are threatening religious freedom. This knowledge is important so that we can be on the alert and pray more accurately and effectively. We need to pray earnestly for the persecuted Christians around the world. The Bible says, “Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” (Heb. 13:3).

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, January 24, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

On Tuesday, Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th president of our nation. That same day the Christian Post executive editor, Richard Land, penned a public letter to the new president in behalf of the Evangelicals in America. He assured the president of the prayers of the saints in obedience to the Biblical exhortation in, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” (1Tim. 2:1-2).

Richard Land, in his letter assured the president that the vast majority of American Evangelicals will pray for him. He stated, “We covenant with you to pray that our Father God will grant you godly wisdom and the mind of our Lord Jesus Christ in all your decision-making. We pray with the faith and confidence that ‘the king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it withersoever he will.” (Pro. 21:1).  We will also importune our Heavenly Father to bless you with safety, health, and all spiritual blessings.” He said that on matters which “involve moral and ethical values,” evangelicals will be praying for him “to apply timeless biblical principles and values” as he makes “policy decisions that will impact the families in America and the world.”

Richard Land further assured the president that “as soon as prestige and the “bully-pulpit” of the presidency are put behind the defense of First Amendment free speech, freedom of conscience and religion, human rights, and voice support for persecuted groups like the Uyghurs around the world, he would have the full support of the Evangelical community.

The letter also urged the president to “extend the legal protections of the law to all our citizens pre-born and born” and to reconsider his position on abortion, as Evangelicals are committed to the sanctity of human life, from conception to death. He said, “We will … support you when we can do so without violating our consciences, and we are united in the rejection of violence and in our commitment to peaceful redress of grievance and nonviolent protest.” The editor then concluded his letter. It is our hope that these words on the behalf of the Evangelical Church will serve to help in the shaping of this new administration in some way, so that the purpose of God can be fulfilled in our nation. The Bible says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” (Ps. 33:12).

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, January 17, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

According to data recently compiled by the reference website Worldometer, more than 42 million babies were aborted in 2020. This number surpassed the leading causes of death in the entire world for 2020. Worldometer, which observes statistics on various topics, made these findings on abortions available after organizing it through the World Health Organization. On New Year’s Eve, the internet archive tool, The Wayback Machine, captured a snapshot from Worldometer and found that over 46 million babies were aborted in 2020 around the globe.

When we compare the number of abortions to the findings regarding other causes of death worldwide in 2020, we discover that over 13 million people died from communicable diseases. Roughly 8.2 million people passed away from cancer, whereas almost 5.1 million and 2.5 million people died due to smoking and alcohol, respectively. Findings from John Hopkins University reported that over 1.8 million people worldwide died from COVID-19 in 2020. Among other findings last year, almost 1.4 million people were killed in road traffic fatalities while nearly 1.1 million people worldwide committed suicide.

According to the Christian Post, when abortions are excluded, we discover that there were nearly 59 million deaths worldwide in 2020. If abortions were considered as a cause of death, the total death toll would significantly increase to more than 100 million. The preceding year, 2019, also had more abortions than any other leading cause of death around the globe. According to The Christian Post, Worldometer reported that there were about 42.4 million babies aborted in 2019.

Not only is abortion the leading cause of death worldwide, but it has also been the leading cause of death in the United States of America in the past few years. Guttmacher Institute, a pro-choice research organization, found that 862,320 babies were aborted in 2017 across our nation. In that same year, the Centers for Disease Control revealed that 647,457 Americans died from heart disease. As of the time of the writing of this article, Worldometer found that over 530,000 abortions had already taken place across the world since 2021 began.

The foregoing facts regarding the murder of the unborn across the world and in our nation, is a grave cause for concern. The Word of God clearly warns against the taking of innocent lives. Matt. 19:18 says, “You shall not murder.” Furthermore, God told Cain, the first murderer, “The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground,” (Gen. 4:10). We can be assured that the blood of these innocent children is crying out to God from the earth, and He is going to give them justice. It is just a matter of time.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, January 10, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

On Tuesday the Christian Post carried an article entitled, “Congress Has Officially Gone Gender Crazy”. It was all in reference to last Sunday’s opening of the 117th Congress when the prayer to open this session diverted from all norms. It was offered by former representative of the House, a United Methodist Church Minister, Emanuel Cleaver.  His prayer was offered in “the name of the monotheistic God, Brahma”, of the Hindu religion. He concluded the prayer as follows, “We ask it in the name of the monotheistic God, Brahma, and god known by many names by many different faiths. Amen and Awoman,” The prayer is believed to have elicited considerable mockery across social media.

But what is the real reason for this kind of prayer? It is a move by the radicals in the US Congress to eliminate all gendered language from the floor of the house and from legislation so as to create a more “politically correct” environment. The House of Representatives officially voted on the proposal on Monday. The vote came down along party lines, with all Democrats voting in favor of the package and all Republicans voting against it. Because Democrats have a narrow majority in the House of Representatives, the rules package passed and will remain in effect for the duration of the 117th Congress.  Words referring to gender, such as ‘father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, first cousin, nephew, niece, husband, wife, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother, stepsister, half brother, half sister, grandson, or granddaughter will be removed.”

But the word “Amen” comes means, “So be it.” It is used in Jewish, Christian, and other liturgies, and is found in Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Arabic, English and many other languages. It has nothing to do with gender. Who said being politically correct has anything to do with truth or reality? To the contrary, being politically correct is quite often based on the denial of reality, or, in this case. To view the word “amen” through the terms of gender is to display complete ignorance of a common word.

Responding to these rule changes in the House of Representatives Rev. Franklin Graham has accused top House Democrats of trying to deny God’s authority. Graham made reference to Gen. 2:27, So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” According to Graham, the push to eliminate gender-specific language “is shaking a fist in the Creator’s face, trying to deny His authority. May God help us to cry out to Him for those who are in leadership in this nation, before it is too late. Amen!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, January 3, 2021

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

It is with gladdened hearts and high expectations that we welcome this New Year 2021. However, we need to pause and consider a prediction which was recently given by Pastor Andrew Brunson. He served as a missionary in Turkey for over 20 years and has recently predicted that Christians in America will face increased persecution in the near future. According to CBN News, Brunson’s remarks were made during the Global Prayer for US Election Integrity event on Facebook recently. Brunson said that since his return to the US just over two years ago, for the first time in his life he is sensing an urgency for his country, the United States of America. Brunson explained.  He said that this urgency has been growing in him for the last two years. He is warning of increasing pressures in the U.S, especially towards people “who embrace Jesus Christ and his teaching, who are not ashamed to stand for him. My concern is that we’re not ready for this pressure. And not being prepared is very, very dangerous on a number of levels.”

In 2016, Brunson was unjustly imprisoned in Turkey after the government accused him of partaking in an alleged coup against Turkish President Erdogan. Bruson then spent the following two years in prison despite having nothing to do with the allegation. Fortunately, the imprisoned pastor was released following diplomatic intervention from the President Trump’s administration. Brunson had also established the Izmir Resurrection Church, which preached Christ and tended to Syrian refugees, including Kurds. Despite his imprisonment, Brunson believes God would providentially use his story to help prepare other Christians to persevere despite the forthcoming trials.

“I think one of the purposes God had for me in my imprisonment was that I learned perseverance at a deeper level again and again and again, as I was repeatedly broken and finally he rebuilt me,” he noted. “But one of the purposes he had for me was to learn this perseverance so that I could help to prepare others to persevere.” Brunson wants the Christians in America to understand that persecution is on the horizon for the church in this nation no matter what. He said, “I believe that persecution is coming and it’s coming quickly and it’s coming soon,” he cautioned. “What is heavy on my heart is that we need to prepare ourselves.”

Those of us who live in this nation should not have any difficulty in understanding what Pastor Andrew Brunson is saying. Throughout the past year we saw numerous indications of it in our nation. Even though Jesus was the most loving and the kindest person in history, He was called evil, and we can expect the same as Christians. As we continue our journey down through this year, let us bear in mind the words of Jesus our Savior and Lord, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (Jn. 16:33).

Have a Productive and Prosperous New Year!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, December 27, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Christian Headline News recently carried a headline which read as follows, “A Strong Case’ that Jesus’ Boyhood Home Has Been Found”. It was based on the findings of a United Kingdom archaeologist says the remains of a first-century house in Nazareth, Israel, could have been the home of Joseph, Mary and the boy Jesus. Ken Dark, a professor of archaeology and history at the University of Reading, told the BBC that there is a “strong case to be made” that the site which lies beneath the Sisters of Nazareth Convent was the home in which Jesus was raised. Professor Ken Dark began researching the site in 2006 and wrote about his findings in a new book entitled, The Sisters of Nazareth Convent: A Roman-period, Byzantine, and Crusader site in central Nazareth.

Professor Dark told the BBC, “I didn’t go to Nazareth to find the house of Jesus, I was actually doing a study of the city’s history as a Byzantine Christian pilgrimage center; nobody could have been more surprised than me.” He further explained that whoever constructed the house would have had excellent knowledge of stone-working. The Bible, in Greek, calls Joseph a “tekton,” which can be translated “craftsman” or “builder.” The dwelling dates to the first century, he says.

From written evidence, according to Dark, this particular church building was believed in the Byzantine period to have been built on the site of Jesus’ home and the dwelling preserved in the floor of the structure. He told the BBC that It is almost certainly the Church of the Nutrition, which was dedicated to the upbringing of Jesus Christ, and mentioned in a Seventh Century pilgrim’s account. The home, he said, was “a typical family home of its time and place.” There was nothing unusual about it. It is not pitifully poor, but there’s no sign of any great wealth either. It’s very ordinary, Dark said. “If this is the childhood environment of Jesus, there’s no reason to believe He grew up in anything other than a very typical Galilean rural home of its time.”

We are grateful for these discoveries that are made from time to time, giving evidence to the fact that Jesus really came to this earth in our interest. Regardless of how some try to deny it, the fact remains that Jesus came to this earth as a babe, developed into an adult, ministered to mankind for three and a half years, gave his life as a sacrifice, rose again and ascended back to heaven to return for His chosen ones at the appointed time. Amen!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, December 06, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Just about two weeks ago, the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a major victory to religious liberty advocates. This victory prevented New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo from enforcing a restriction that limits houses of worship to 10 and 25 persons during the pandemic, regardless of the size of the building. It was the first time the nation’s highest court had sided with churches or synagogues during the pandemic. This was a 5-4 victory. The majority opinion ruled that “even in a pandemic, the Constitution cannot be put away and forgotten. The restrictions at issue here, by effectively barring many from attending religious services, strike at the very heart of the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty.”

At issue were restrictions by Gov. Cuomo that limited churches and synagogues to 10 persons in so-called “red zones” and 25 persons in orange zones. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn and Agudath Israel of America brought the suit. The regulations, the court ruled, “single out houses of worship for especially harsh treatment.”In a red zone, while a synagogue or a church could not admit more than 10 persons, businesses categorized as ‘essential’ were permitted to admit as many people as they wished, the court ruled. And the list of ‘essential’ businesses included things such as acupuncture facilities, campgrounds, garages, as well as many whose services are not limited to those that can be regarded as essential, such as all plants manufacturing chemicals and microelectronics and all transportation facilities. The disparate treatment was even more striking in an orange zone. While attendance at houses of worship was limited to 25 persons, even non-essential businesses were free to decide for themselves how many persons to admit.

Both the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn and Agudath Israel of America say their houses of worship have operated at 25 percent or 33 percent capacity for months without a single outbreak, the court ruled in its decision. The New York houses of worship that brought the lawsuit can seat between 400 and 1,000 individuals. “It is hard to believe that admitting more than 10 people to a 1,000–seat church or 400–seat synagogue would create a more serious health risk than the many other activities that the State allows,” the majority ruled.

We thank God for this great victory which has been secured by the help of God for the churches in New York. As I have said numerous times, the devil is using the present circumstances to confine and crush the church. He is doing this because he is aware of the greater glory that is about to descend on the church. But we must believe what Jesus said, “I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matt. 16:18). Amen!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

We have just celebrated another Thanksgiving Day. This is a day that we set aside in our nation for the specific purpose of giving thanks to God Almighty. Despite what the revisionists tell us, many of our founding fathers were very committed Christians. Even though some of them were not very strong in their faith in Christ, they still believed that the Bible was the Word of God. They held regard for God and understood that God gave us this great nation. So in 1789 our first president, George Washington, issued a proclamation to set apart a day to give thanks to the Lord.

However, many in our culture don’t seem to know what to do with a day called Thanksgiving. For many, it is just something that happens between Halloween and Christmas. It is the day they stuff themselves before they go shopping on Black Friday. And many people don’t even call it Thanksgiving anymore; they simply call it Turkey Day. They have forgotten that Thanksgiving was originally about setting aside a day to give praise and thanks to God.

But for the Christian, however, every day should be a day of thanksgiving to God. In fact, research has revealed that when people have an attitude of gratitude to God their health is better and they actually live longer.  They experienced fewer heart issues and fewer aches and pains. It also affects their outlook on life. Dr. Robert Emmons, a psychology professor at the University of California has pointed out that gratitude blocks toxic, negative emotions, such as envy, resentment and regret. These emotions can destroy ones happiness.

Thanksgiving is still born in adversity; so perhaps, it meant even more to many of us this year than in previous years. It is still a day for the courageous, those who face their difficulties and fight to remain thankful to God in spite of their circumstances. Maybe right now you are in a situation where things are not making much sense. There may be a lot of uncertainty, and it is hard for you.

But you can still give thanks to God. You can still be grateful to Him. As the Bible clearly states, “In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1Thes. 5:18).Amen!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Much thanksgiving is ascending to God this week from a church in California, after a campaign to exclude it from the community failed. The ruling from the court allows the church to rent a former YMCA building in Thousand Oaks, rejecting arguments from an organized association that the congregation should not be allowed into the community. The Ventura County Superior Court decided in favor of a nonprofit foundation which bought a former YMCA building and then agreed to lease it to Godspeak Calvary Chapel. Liberty Counsel Chairman, Mat Staver, said “This is a great ruling by the Ventura County Superior Court in this frivolous lawsuit against a Christian church. It is a violation of the law to welcome a YMCA but refuse a church. The city of Thousand Oaks followed the law, but a small handful of people want the city to violate zoning laws and federal laws to discriminate against the use of the building for religious services. This will not happen.”

The association argued that the church should not be considered a religious organization. But Liberty Counsel argued that the demand of the plaintiffs would have been discriminatory and unconstitutional, because it would have subjected the church and the foundation to different and more onerous burdens, solely because of their religious affiliation. The foundation bought the building in 2018. It is in a commercial area that is part of a larger residential and commercial development. The overall development was approved by the city in 2002. The city approved an environmental impact report and development permit as required under state law, Liberty Counsel explained.

The ruling from Judge Matthew Guasco tentatively decided the Dos Vientos Community Preservation Association cannot force the city of Thousand Oaks to discriminate against the California church and a non-profit organization by requiring it to get a new or amended development permit. The judge said the foundation demonstrated that the city followed all applicable laws and regulations in granting the building permits for Calvary Chapel, without requiring a new or amended development permit. Bottom of Form

Let us celebrate with Calvary Chapel and give thanks to God this Thanksgiving for this victory over the kingdom of darkness. “Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.” (Ps. 95:1-3).

HAVE A BLESSED THANKSGIVING!

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2020

We welcome you to FEA, where we are overcoming through the power of the Word. May God bless you richly today.

Just a few weeks ago we brought you up to date with actions in China against the church. But since then the situation has gotten even worse, according to Christian Headlines. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is now taking what people would consider to be the ultimate action against church venues. This is being done in order to prevent Christians from meeting and holding any services period. According to Bitter Winter magazine, local governments have now called for the demolishing of churches or the repurposing of them into entertainment venues, factories, as well as propaganda canters for the CCP. Over 70 Protestant venues have already been shut down. A resident from Suqian city’s Shuyang County told Bitter Winter that a shutdown Three-Self Church was converted into a memorial hall for China’s revolutionary heroes.

On June 5, government-hired workers removed a cross from the church building along with a large pillar with a sign that said, “God loves the world.” In its place was positioned a signboard reading, “Huaihai District’s Military and Political Auditorium”. The church will now be used to teach the young generation about China’s revolutionary spirit, a village official explained. Additionally, at least three shut-down Three-Self churches in Suqian’s Siyang County were demolished. One government official said that People of faith outnumber Communist Party members, and the Party is not winning people’s hearts. He went on to say that the government fears that churches will bring instability, so they are being eradicated to ensure that there are more CCP members than believers.

Just a few weeks ago on October 21, the government of Xiayi County in the central province of Henan called for the demolishing of a former Three-Self church in order to build a new clinic in its place. A resident of that county noted that the venue was closed last year and was used as a clothing factory, which was closed down two months later. In April, the Guangxin district government in Shangrao city shut down an old local church venue after accusing them of organizing illegal gatherings. A month later, the venue was converted to a Civilization Practice Station for a New Era. Party propaganda posters were posted everywhere in the venue, and table-tennis boards were brought inside, a church member explained to Bitter Winter. This is what one church member said.

Among 198 countries and territories where Christians are persecuted for their faith, China has the highest score. It ranks 9.3 out of 10. This makes it the most vicious country against Christians. Let us pray more than ever for our Chinese brethren. God is able to sustain them, for He said, “My grace is sufficient for you; for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2Cor. 12:9). Amen!
