BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY APRIL 3, 2016

Welcome to FEA! God be praised for allowing us the privilege of life as we stand on the threshold of a new month. Let us honor Him at all times even in the face of bitter opposition.
Due to pressure from the corporate world and Hollywood, Georgia’s Governor, Nathan Deal recently opted to veto a religious liberty bill that would have prevented the state government from punishing faith-based organizations, churches and pastors over their opposition to same-sex marriage. The bill ladled, “Pastor Protection Act,” or H.B. 757, has become quite controversial since it was passed by both legislative houses in February with a number of opponents of the measure claiming that it opens the door for discrimination of LGBT people.

After corporations like Disney and Marvel threatened a boycott against the state of Georgia if the bill became law, the Human Rights Campaign sent a letter last week to the governor with the signatures of several prominent persons from the entertainment industry who also threatened to boycott filming or performing in the state if Governor Deal were to sign the bill into law.
While the governor’s veto drew obvious praise from the LGBT community, it served to anger several leading conservatives and religious freedom activists. In a tweet, Russell Moore, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, called the governor’s veto “shameful.” A second tweet stated the following, “GA Gov. @NathanDeal sell-out to big business pressure on religious freedom, one more example of what serving Mammon does to the common good.”
It is very obvious that pressure against God’s people is mounting in our nation. What should be our response in light of this? The Apostle Peter gives us the answer in 1Peter 4:13. He exhorts us to “rejoice inasmuch as you are partakers of the sufferings of Christ; that when His glory shall be revealed you may be glad also with exceeding joy.”This is not a time to be sad and depressed, but this is a time to be glad and rejoice. This is a time to be grounded in the Lord, so that whatever the trial we may be able to triumph through Christ Jesus.

WHO IS THIS?

Imagine standing shoulder to shoulder with onlookers by a dirt road. The woman behind you is on her tiptoes, trying to see who is coming. In the distance, you glimpse a man riding a donkey. As He approaches, people toss their coats onto the road. Suddenly, you hear a tree crack behind you. A man is cutting down palm branches, and people are spreading them out ahead of the donkey.
Jesus’ followers zealously honored Him as He entered Jerusalem a few days before His crucifixion. The multitude rejoiced and praised God for “all the mighty works they had seen” (Luke 19:37). Jesus’ devotees surrounded Him, calling out, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!” (v.38). their enthusiastic honor affected the people of Jerusalem. When Jesus finally arrived, “all the city was moved, saying, ‘Who is this?’” (Matt. 21:10).
Today, people are still curious about Jesus. Although we can’t pave His way with palm branches or shout praises to Him in person, we can still honor Him. We can discuss His remarkable works, assist people in need (Gal. 6:2), patiently bear insults (1 Peter 4:14-16), and love each other deeply (v.8). Then we must be ready to answer the onlookers who ask, “Who is Jesus?”. –Jennifer Benson Schuldt
