BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY MAY 1, 2016

We are so happy to be gathered again on this another day of worship. It is indeed a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord.

The top ten most frequently challenged book list is out. According to the American Library Association, it has revealed that the Bible is among the books most often challenged and called to be banned from libraries. According to James LaRue, director of the Office for Intellectual Freedom for the American Library Association, “You have people who feel that if a school library buys a copy of the Bible, it’s a violation of church and state. And sometimes there’s a retaliatory action, where a religious group has objected to a book and a parent might respond by objecting to the Bible.”

Guidelines for the Office for Intellectual Freedom have clarified that including Bibles in the library does not violate the separation of church and state, as long as it is not endorsed or promoted above other religious material. While the Bible ranked No. 6 on the list, most of the other books were objected to because of sexually explicit content, or because of having an LGBT theme.

The LA Times has released the full list of the opposed books. This includes Looking for Alaska, by John Green, first. Of course, this was due to the sexually explicit nature of that book. Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James, was in the second place for similar reasons, while books such as I am Jazz, Beyond Magenta: Transgender Teens Speak Out, and Two Boys Kissing, focused on LGBT themes. One can understand opposition to these books, but why should the Bible be ranked among these books when it is in opposition to their content.

Whether we are aware of it or not, we are living in the last days and Satan has launched an all-out offensive against the church. And there is no better way to do it than to attack the Word of God which is the foundation of the Christian faith. But Satan has already lost! According to Guinness World Records, the Bible is the best-selling book of all time. Research carried out by Writer James Chapman found that the Bible is the most read book in the world. Isaiah 40:8 says, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God shall stand forever.” Hallelujah!
