BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY MARCH 26, 2017

Once again we welcome you as we gather to worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. May His name be glorified in us.

According to an article in Charisma Magazine, the church in America is fighting an uphill battle because of the social issues that are pressing for acceptance by the church. It appears that the “rising generation of evangelicals” finds it more acceptable to “coexist,” or “tolerate,” the new trend of moral values that are opposed to the traditional and Biblical teachings. Because of scare tactics and fear, three types of Christians seem to be emerging in the church today.
Couch-potato Christians: These Christians conform to the culture by being silent on the tough culture-and-faith discussions. This group will make light of God’s absolute truths by promoting the illusion that Jesus practiced neutrality as His preferred method of evangelism.
Cafeteria-style Christians: This group picks and chooses which Scripture passages to live by, opting for the ones that best seem to fit in with culture. They focus primarily on the “nice” parts of the gospel “while simultaneously and intentionally minimize sin, hell, repentance and transformation.”

Convictional Christians: These Christians are bold and unrelenting in the face of cultural pressure to compromise the gospel. They refuse to accept the new morals that are being perpetuated. While they speak compassionately about love and grace, they also stress the need for people to recognize sin and turn from that lifestyle.

A “feel good” doctrine to which young evangelicals are leaning promotes religious practices that make one feel good whether the activities conflict with the Word of God or not. It is appalling that some popular evangelical writers and preachers encourage young evangelicals to accept abortion and same-sex marriage so that Christianity in turn will be accepted by the “media, academia and Hollywood.” Instead of standing up for truth, many young people are buying into theological falsehood and “are embracing a couch-potato, cafeteria-style Christianity in the name of tolerance.”

Let us pray earnestly for our young people in America and around the world that they will be filled with the Holy Ghost who will enable them to be bold and obey God rather than man.

Luke- Last Part

How do I apply this?
The richness of Luke’s portrayal of Jesus has profound implications for our relationship with God today. Jesus walks through Luke’s gospel illustrating His deep and abiding care for people, regardless of what they have done or their status in society.

Do you believe that God loves you no matter what you’ve done? The fact that the eternal Son of God condescended to lower Himself, take on human flesh, make Himself subject to human limitations, and seek out His people in bodily form shows us clearly how much God cares for us and, in turn, how we are to care for others.
