Greetings to all in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Let us rejoice in Him and be glad today.
The most widely accepted story on the origin of Father’s Day comes from Spokane, Washington. Sonora Smart Dodd, who grew up without a mother, was looking for a way to publicly recognize, thank and honor her father who had raised her and her five siblings single-handedly. She brought the idea to her pastor and church brethren. They gladly embraced the idea and held the first Father’s Day celebration on June 19, 1909.
Father’s Day was established with noble intentions. However, it is impossible for us to improve on the Scriptures. Ephesians 6: 1 – 3 states, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise, that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” Here we are made aware of the two essential blessings which God attaches to honoring our father and mother. They are success and longevity. What great blessings!
Because there is a link between honoring our parents and honoring God, we need to be aware of the unintended consequences of establishing one day to honor parents. People tend to forget the history that led to the establishment of this day and begin to act as if it is the only day that we need to honor our father. We can therefore see how the law of unintended consequences can impact this relationship. For instance, if we are not careful, the term “Lord’s Day” can come to mean Sunday is the only day that belongs to God and, therefore, is the only time we pause to worship, praise and honor Him. Left uncorrected, this concept can take root and lead one to falsely believe that God is pleased if we only pause once a week for an hour or two to honor Him, when God intends for it to be a daily thing. It is the same with honoring our father; God intends for it to be a daily thing.
We are thankful to God for fathers and the fact that we can pause on this day annually to joyfully acknowledge the blessing of fatherhood. May God help us to obey Him and be appreciative of our father this and every day.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

DAD
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need.
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it… “DAD”
